1. What is greeting style?
2. Describe the greeting style in my country
What is greeting style?
In intercultural communication, greeting styles can vary significantly across different cultures. I can provide you with some
general insights.
Verbal Greetings: Some cultures place a strong emphasis on verbal greetings, where individuals use specific words or phrases to
greet each other. Examples include "hello," "good morning," or "how are you?“.
Physical Contact: Physical contact during greetings can also differ across cultures. In some cultures, such as in Western
countries, a handshake is common. In other cultures, a hug, a kiss on the cheek, or a bow may be the normal.
Eye Contact: Eye contact during greetings can also vary. In some cultures, such as in Western cultures, maintaining direct eye
contact is seen as a sign of respect and attentiveness. However, in other cultures, prolonged eye contact may be considered
impolite or confrontational.
Non-Verbal Cues: Non-verbal cues, such as facial expressions and body language, play a significant role in greetings. Smiling,
nodding, and maintaining an open posture are generally seen as positive and friendly gestures. However, the interpretation of
non-verbal cues can differ across cultures, so it is crucial to be mindful of cultural differences.
Remember, these are general observations, and each culture has its unique greeting customs. When engaging in intercultural
communication, it is essential to approach greetings with an open mind, respect cultural differences, and be willing to adapt the
behaviour to show respect and build positive connections.
Describe the greeting style in my country?
Greetings in Bangladesh are warm, respectful, and often accompanied by a genuine smile. It is important to show courtesy and
acknowledge the cultural norms when greeting people in Bangladesh.
 In Bangladesh the way people address one another varies depending on the age, gender and religion difference between
them. Differences in age and status are marked through language conventions. Individuals of a higher status are not
addressed by personal name but rather with a title or kinship(Kinship is blood-relationship between members of the same family)
term.
 The terms ‘sister’, ‘brother’, ‘aunty’ and ‘uncle’ are used often among friends, colleagues and family members.
 Men may shake hands if they are of equal age or close friend or known each other. This handshake tends to be held quite
softly. Respect is expressed after a handshake by placing one’s right hand over one’s heart.
 Women and men rarely shake hands with one another.
 Personal interactions are often initiated with the greeting ‘Assalam Waleykum’ (‘peace be with you’), to which the expected
response is, ‘Waleykum Assalam' (‘and with you’).

you peace,"
The Muslim most common
