Presentation
This is one of the environmental problems
happening in our country.
DEFORESTATION
Deforestation is the process of
cutting down or clearing
forests, often resulting in
damage to the environment
and loss of biodiversity.
Effects of
Deforestation
• Landslides and flooding (e.g., Leyte,
Cagayan Valley)
• Loss of endemic species (e.g.,
Philippine Eagle)
• Climate change and rising
temperatures
• Displacement of indigenous
communities (Lumad, Aeta, etc.)
Ecocentrism is the belief that nature
and all its parts—living and non-living
—have intrinsic value and should be
respected and protected, not just
because they are useful to humans,
but because they are important in
themselves. It sees humans as part of
nature, not above it.
What is
Ecocentrism?
Ecocentric View on
Deforestation
From an ecocentric
perspective,
deforestation is morally
and ecologically wrong
because:
It destroys the balance of the
ecosystem.
Cutting down forests harms
not just trees, but the entire
web of life—animals, soil, air,
and water systems.
It disrespects nature’s inherent
value.
Trees and forests aren’t just
resources for profit—they have a
right to exist and flourish, even if
humans don’t directly benefit
It puts the planet at risk.
Deforestation contributes to
climate change, loss of
biodiversity, and soil
degradation, which endangers
the health of the Earth as a
whole.
Ecocentrism sees deforestation as
a violation of nature’s rights and a
dangerous disruption to Earth’s
natural systems. It argues that we
must protect forests not just for
human benefit, but out of respect
for the entire ecosystem.
