Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan was born around 1918 in Abu Dhabi and became the ruler of Abu Dhabi in 1966. He was a driving force in creating the United Arab Emirates federation in 1971 and worked to improve welfare, education, health, and housing using oil revenues. Sheikh Zayed had interests in falconry, horses, camels, and supported education and women's rights. He built schools, universities, and sought to resolve issues through consultation rather than war.

The document summarizes various theories and approaches to leadership and motivation. It discusses different leadership styles and behaviors, including situational leadership theories. Turn Your Desk Around: A short leadership story by Jonathan Michael BowmanJonathan Michael Bowman
An employee thanked the author for turning his desk around when he became the boss three years prior. This small act showed the employee that the author cared about his team by ensuring employees could see his face when visiting his office rather than his back. While a small act, it meant a lot to the employee and showed genuine concern and respect for the team. The story teaches that leaders should show they care about their employees through both large and small acts in order to earn their commitment to accomplishing great things.
This document summarizes a workshop on motivation given by Rick Miller of Pro356 Consulting. The workshop examined what is known about motivation and whether typical business approaches align with research findings. Miller discussed the history of motivation theories, from Motivation 1.0 focusing on survival instincts to modern Motivation 3.0 emphasizing self-motivation. Key theorists such as Herzberg and Deming were cited for challenging traditional views of using only external rewards and punishments. The workshop addressed open questions about whether incentive plans achieve long-term goals and how motivation is impacted in today's work environments.
This document discusses two theories on whether leaders are born or made:
1. Leadership trait theory suggests that leaders are born with certain innate qualities and traits. However, it does not account for how leadership may vary based on the situation.
2. Behavioral theory of leadership proposes that anyone can become an effective leader through learning key behaviors, such as initiating structure and consideration. It is based on research finding that a leader's behavior best predicts their influence and success. However, no single leadership style is appropriate for all situations. The most effective leaders can adapt their behavior to different contexts.
Leadership involves influencing others to achieve goals through strategic thinking, vision, motivation, and inspiration. Managers focus on maintaining the status quo while leaders drive innovation. Effective leadership requires problem solving, communication skills, managing goals and emotions, taking risks, and asking questions rather than giving instructions. To be a strong leader, one must learn from mistakes, develop unique value, build a reputation, and strive for excellence.
Leadership is at the core of every successful, and not so successful, organization around the world. Leadership starts from the top and trickles down to the last person hired at an organization.
Everyone knows what leadership is and who may be a great leader, but if you had to define great leadership what would your response be?
This infographic, created by Norwich University, examines what truly defines a good leader - from their ability to communicate to their positive attitude.
Are you a good leader? What can you do to be a more effective leader? This infographic will not only education about what makes a great leader, but also gives you a few tips on how you can improve your own leadership skills as well.

The document discusses the differences between leadership and management. Leadership is defined as motivating a group of people to achieve a common goal, while management is responsible for setting objectives, organizing resources, and motivating staff to meet organizational aims. The document lists leadership positions like directors and management roles like managers. It also contrasts key traits of leaders and managers, noting that leaders design change, inspire people, and challenge the status quo, while managers focus on organizing change, consolidating efforts, and reflecting the status quo.
This presentation outlines the key qualities of a good leader, which include intelligence, strong communication skills, self-confidence, empathy, job proficiency, flexibility, and foresight. It also distinguishes between leadership and management, noting that while leadership can be limited in extent and influence, management is a wider and more collective activity that uses formal authority.
Motivation refers to factors that induce people to act or move in a desired way to achieve organizational goals. It is a complex process that begins with a need and results in goal-directed behavior. Managers use various motivators like pay, bonuses, recognition to influence employee behavior. Motivation theories like Maslow's hierarchy of needs, Herzberg's two-factor theory, expectancy theory, and equity theory provide frameworks to understand factors that motivate individuals and affect performance. Goal setting, leadership, and other techniques can also influence employee motivation levels.
At the beginning of the day, it's all about possibilities. At the end of the day, it's all about results.
But in today's ultra-competitive marketplace, good results aren't good enough.
To win, you need to produce extraordinary results.
Extraordinary results come from extraordinarily performing teams. And where there is an extraordinary team, you can bet there is an inspiring leader.
That's why leadership - specifically, your leadership - matters.
- Quoted from the book: Leadership Matters, by Lee J. Colan (one of my favorite teachers).
The document contrasts the differences between leaders and managers. Managers focus on work, seek comfort, and have an authoritarian style while using their formal authority to control resources and minimize risks. Leaders focus on inspiring people, have a charismatic style, seek long-term vision and risk, and strive for achievement through their passion and quest for truth. The key difference is that managers maintain stability through managing objectives and results in the short-term, while leaders influence people to guide them in a new direction through personal charisma and a transformational vision for the future.
This is a scaled back less conservative version of my motivation and leadership PowerPoint presentation. The focus was taken off of data mining / statistics and geared towards positive influence. The presentation was far less formal compared to what I would have manufactured for a business presentation. Many of he slides are also condensed rather than detailed and drawn out to fit the allotted presentation time.
