After I attended an unconference Gov20LA Feb 5-7 in Los Angeles, I shared some ideas with the State of California Webmaster User Group. This presentation was given about 9 AM Thursday morning, February 18, 2010.
The document provides information on hosting an unconference event, including important steps, frequently asked questions, and examples. Some key points covered include:
1) An unconference is a participant-driven event focused on collaboration without a set schedule.
2) Common concerns about hosting one are addressed, such as lack of expertise, time, or reasons people would attend without an agenda.
3) Examples are given for how previous Real Estate BarCamp events were organized with varying levels of sponsorship and attendance.
The document summarizes information about the IWMW 2018 conference, including:
- It was the 22nd IWMW event with 149 delegates from 52 UK universities.
- Over the history of the conference from 1997-2018 there were 658 speaking appearances from 386 individual speakers, with 71% being one-time speakers and 29% speaking more than once.
- The conference was supported by sponsors who provided financial support and an exhibition. Live streaming and social media coverage helped amplify the event for those unable to attend.
- Between conferences, an online community is sustained through regional groups and discussions on topics of shared interest.

This document discusses the importance of in-person (IRL) engagement for organizations, in addition to digital engagement. It provides examples of different types of in-person events and strategies organizations can use, such as forums, trainings, open office hours, attending community meetings, annual fundraising events, and more. Planning tips are outlined, such as setting goals, recruiting participants, finding conversation leaders and locations, setting expectations, and following up. The document encourages organizations to get feedback and continue conversations through both in-person and online methods.
This document discusses how online tools can support democracy and civic participation. It provides examples of how social media and the internet have been used in Brighton & Hove to raise awareness, share ideas, and give voice to communities on issues. While many now use these tools, there are still groups who are offline, such as some elderly, unemployed, and low-income individuals. The document encourages listeners to start by observing online conversations, then to begin participating through blogging, social media, and providing feedback to local governments.
This document discusses efforts to address youth homelessness in Lanark County. It outlines the goals of advocating for policies to help rural homeless populations, sharing best practices between service providers, and conducting research. Data is presented showing a 68% reduction in youth homelessness after establishing an emergency housing program. Current initiatives include developing tiny home prototypes and communities for affordable emergency and permanent housing. Partnerships with colleges and funding from various sources are supporting this work. Overall the document aims to raise awareness of the challenges of homelessness in rural areas and showcase potential solutions.

This document discusses how resources and technologies that were once scarce can become abundant through innovation and adaptation. It provides examples like aluminum, which was scarce for 1800 years until an electrical process was developed to extract it from bauxite, and shale oil/gas, which has become abundant due to horizontal drilling and fracking. The document also discusses disruptive technologies and how industries must adapt to paradigm shifts like digitization. It emphasizes the importance of skills like general intelligence, leadership, humility and grit for thriving in times of change.

Mike Resman, president of the University of Minnesota Habitat for Humanity chapter, gave a presentation about using technology effectively for nonprofit organizations. He discussed choosing the right tools based on cost, ease of use, and who will use them. Google Apps and keeping in touch using shared documents were presented as low-cost options. Various apps like Evernote, Dropbox, and Mailchimp were demonstrated for tasks like note-taking, file sharing, and email marketing. The presentation encouraged attendees to start with free tools and try options before purchasing.

The Evolution and Impact of OTT Platforms: A Deep Dive into the Future of Ent...ABHILASH DUTTA
This presentation provides a thorough examination of Over-the-Top (OTT) platforms, focusing on their development and substantial influence on the entertainment industry, with a particular emphasis on the Indian market. We begin with an introduction to OTT platforms, defining them as streaming services that deliver content directly over the internet, bypassing traditional broadcast channels. These platforms offer a variety of content, including movies, TV shows, and original productions, allowing users to access content on-demand across multiple devices. The historical context covers the early days of streaming, starting with Netflix's inception in 1997 as a DVD rental service and its transition to streaming in 2007. The presentation also highlights India's television journey, from the launch of Doordarshan in 1959 to the introduction of Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite television in 2000, which expanded viewing choices and set the stage for the rise of OTT platforms like Big Flix, Ditto TV, Sony LIV, Hotstar, and Netflix. The business models of OTT platforms are explored in detail. Subscription Video on Demand (SVOD) models, exemplified by Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, offer unlimited content access for a monthly fee. Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD) models, like iTunes and Sky Box Office, allow users to pay for individual pieces of content. Advertising-Based Video on Demand (AVOD) models, such as YouTube and Facebook Watch, provide free content supported by advertisements. Hybrid models combine elements of SVOD and AVOD, offering flexibility to cater to diverse audience preferences.
Content acquisition strategies are also discussed, highlighting the dual approach of purchasing broadcasting rights for existing films and TV shows and investing in original content production. This section underscores the importance of a robust content library in attracting and retaining subscribers. The presentation addresses the challenges faced by OTT platforms, including the unpredictability of content acquisition and audience preferences. It emphasizes the difficulty of balancing content investment with returns in a competitive market, the high costs associated with marketing, and the need for continuous innovation and adaptation to stay relevant.
The impact of OTT platforms on the Bollywood film industry is significant. The competition for viewers has led to a decrease in cinema ticket sales, affecting the revenue of Bollywood films that traditionally rely on theatrical releases. Additionally, OTT platforms now pay less for film rights due to the uncertain success of films in cinemas.
Looking ahead, the future of OTT in India appears promising. The market is expected to grow by 20% annually, reaching a value of ₹1200 billion by the end of the decade. The increasing availability of affordable smartphones and internet access will drive this growth, making OTT platforms a primary source of entertainment for many viewers.
