2. Order of titling
1. Distributors (warner bros, they put this there because warner bro’s is a
well known film company and they are well known for very good movies
so the audience will be expecting a very good movie.
2. Producer ( Irwin Winkler, his name came second because the audience
are most probably aware of all the good films he was produced before
therefore once they see that he produced it, they know they are in for a
treat.
3. Director (Martin Scorsese, just like the producer everyone knows him as
being a director of many great films, so when the audience realise he
directed this film they can anticipate a great film.
4. Main actors; in order of how well known they are.
5. “This film is based on true story”.
6. 10 second clip of the car driving. (setting the scene)
7. Goes back to black title screen says (New york 1970)
8. Goes back to the film.
9. Then shows the name of the film.
3. Use of color
• Black background, to keep it simple so they aren’t distracted
from the opening scene. In addition; with the dark
background it has negative connotations and goes with the
other things that happens in the opening 2 minutes, such as
the killing of an innocent man, if there was a light colorful
background it wouldn't’t have gone with the murder of the
innocent man.
4. Codes and conventions
• The opening sequence breaks a convention because
in the beginning it does not open with any music at
all, whereas normally there would be a string
instrument with the titles. This makes it seem more
realistic, like you’re not watching, and like something
actually happened in real life, which is the case
because it then says that it is based on a true story.
5. Codes and conventions
• Typical of a crime thriller, within the opening two
minutes there is a death.
• a gun as well as a knife is seen and used., which is also
very common.
• The killing is at night, which is another convention.
• It builds suspense for the audience as it causes the
audience to wonder what the noise is.
