In 2001, Finning donated 18 acres of land to four local institutions to establish the Great Northern Way campus. The institutions founded the GNW Trust to govern the site and established the Centre for Digital Media, which offers a Master's in Digital Media degree through a joint program between UBC, SFU, Emily Carr, and BCIT. The site has since developed into a district for students, digital media companies, entrepreneurs, and artists to work and study, with Emily Carr relocating its campus there and industry partnerships through the digital media program.
