The global population is growing by 2.5 people per second, leading to increased demand for grains like corn, soybeans, and wheat. To feed the 78 million additional people each year requires cultivating an extra 13.7 million acres, twice the size of Vermont. Much of the suitable unused farmland is in Africa and Latin America, which lack farming infrastructure. In just three minutes, over 1.6 million more people are added who will need 443 bushels of corn, 437 bushels of soybeans, and 1,639 bushels of wheat to supply them for a year.
