Awarded the Switzer Distinguished Disability and Rehabilitation Research Fellowship by the
National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research to conduct a year long study. The
topic focused on an exploratory study of service dog use in the workplace. It was comprised
of a concept mapping/pattern matching study of elements of service dog teams in the
workplace and a qualitative study of the experiences of service dog teams using a Grounded

As Graduate faculty of the College of Human Resources and Education, responsible for
student advising, teaching, community service, scholarship and research. Also coordinate the
clinical rehabilitation and mental health counseling program within the department, maintaining
curriculum design and delivery standards for a Council on Rehabilitation Education (CORE)
accredited program, developing linkages with the state and national networks in rehabilitation,
as well as liaison with other university-based programs. Manage the annual internship seminar
for students, graduates and employers. Developed and disseminated program brochure, poster
and other marketing materials.

In 2003, started an e-campus program of study in rehabilitation counseling with funding
received from the WV Commission on Higher Education and, in 2004, online classwork in
vocational evaluation with funding from WVU Extending Learning. The program has grown
from 35 students in 2000 to over 75. It was awarded a Program of Excellence distinction by
the WVU Board of Governors in 2015. Awarded: #1 in the Top 10 Best Buys Online Masters
Degrees in Psychology, Human Services Social Sciences by GetEducated.com #6 in the Top
20 Online Masters Degrees in Substance Abuse Counseling by The Best Schools.
Duties include the management of the RSA Scholars program funded by the US Rehabilitation
Services Administration. Since the first award in 2004, 78 students have participated in this
program. A current RSA scholars grant will fund an additional 18 students during 2015-20

As Director of Programming, was responsible for program development and implementation
of projects funded by state and federal grants and contracts. The job duties included: grant
and contract writing and submission; new project start up; supervision of staff-, and
marketing. In this position, supervised the following projects:

Discretionary Grant Application Support Services for OSERS: Principal Investigator.
Conducted start up activities on multi-million dollar contract to provide support services to the
three components of the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services, including
National Institute for Disability and Rehabilitation Research, Rehabilitation Services
Administration, and Office of Special Education. Created processes and forms for
implementation of peer review selection, invitation, and conducting review sessions for
discretionary grant competitions. Supervised subcontractor in the design and development of
reviewer and process databases. Supported the components in actual review sessions. 1996.
CSAPs Training System Rehabilitation Specialists Program: Director. Managed the
organization and development of a contract to deliver training and technical assistance on
alcohol, tobacco, and other drug problem prevention to rehabilitation specialists throughout
the nation. The training audience included vocational rehabilitation agencies, independent
living centers, and medical rehabilitation facilities. Duties included marketing, developing
curriculum, coordinating logistics for delivery of training and technical assistance, developing
Training of Trainers component, and participating as a Trainer and Training Coordinator.
The curriculum was designed as an extended learning model. As such, was responsible for the
development of preliminary practices, preparation materials, workshop curriculum and
participants’ materials, and application materials. The application materials included
recommendations based on research in the field and resources. In addition, technical
assistance was offered to sites. Developed agendas and materials, as well as delivered
technical assistance.
As part of the design of this extended learning model, materials were also developed as tools
for participants as they practiced prevention strategies in their workplace.
Responsible for conceptualization, design and pretesting of a knowledge utilization package.
This included fact sheets, posters, brochures and a video.
In addition, conducted program analysis and collaborated with evaluation contract to develop
program evaluation component. Developed feedback forms and conducted focus groups and
peer review activities. Monitored budget expenditures and provided monthly and annual
reports on this task order contract. 1993-1996.
Resources for Respect and Resiliency: Principal Investigator. Responsible for the
development and dissemination of a communications program in alcohol, tobacco, and other
drug prevention targeting runaway and homeless female adolescents. This project was
administered in partnership with the National Network for Youth as a subcontractor. Also
responsible for managing this and the evaluation subcontract on this national initiative. 1995-
96.
Sisters for Life Subcontract: Director. This subcontract was with Metro Teen AIDS, a
Washington, DC-based non profit organization. As Director, responsible for the development
of a curriculum for an alcohol, tobacco and other drug problem prevention grant targeting
disadvantaged female adolescents of minority background. Also responsible for the
development of staff training to address issues related to individual, family and community

factors. 1995-1996.
Learning for Life: Curriculum Specialist. Served as curriculum specialist and staff
development specialist for this Nashville, TN - based prevention project. The project was
designed to address individual, family and community risk factors present for female
adolescents in a public housing development who were also of minority background. The
individual curriculum was arts-based and promoted the development of resiliency in the
adolescents while addressing community environmental factors. 1994 to 1995.
Wright State University: Subcontract Director. Developed activities and material as a
subcontractor on a Drug-Free Schools and Communities grant awarded to Wright State
University. The purpose of the grant was to develop curriculum and train special educators in
alcohol, tobacco, and other drug problem prevention. The material includes activities for the
classroom, material for parents of children with disabilities, and material for the child in special
education. A video handbook was also produced and a comic book. Material won 1995
Markie Award. 1992 to 1995.
Resource Center on Substance Abuse Prevention and Disability: Manager. Supervised the
development of a Resource Center funded by a grant from the U.S. Center for Substance
Abuse Prevention. Wrote and implemented the procedures for material collection, acquisition
and processing, and inquiry responses. Developed marketing plans and evaluation plans.
Responsibilities included the direct supervision of two Information Specialists and an
Administrative Assistant in the day to day operation of the Resource Center. Answered
inquiries on the subject of alcohol and other drug prevention and disability, including statistics,
literature reference and resource referral. Maintained a collection of documents on the subject
and networked throughout the nation to develop resources on the subject. 1991 to 1996.
Making Healthy Choices: Project Director. The Nancy Reagan Foundation grant provided for
the development, production and distribution of audiocassette and handbook set. The set was
designed to facilitate discussion of issues related to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs between
children with disabilities and their families. Responsible for written materials and script;
conducted focus groups; and supervised package design, marketing and distribution of
completed product. Monitored budget. 1994-95.
Coordinator/ Homeless Services
Alcohol and Drug Services, Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board Fairfax, VA

Supervised substance abuse counselors in the County shelters who provide services to clients
using a case management approach. Served as liaison with community based programs and
resources. Established goals and objectives for service delivery, as well as developed
procedures. Participated in county task force.
Responsible for planning, coordinating and implementing expansion of services as the
assistant to the Director of Residential Services. Participated in writing federal grants to

provide case management services, residential and outpatient treatment to special populations.
Other duties included purchasing equipment, writing job descriptions, preparing budget
outlines and projections, quality assurance, and providing training.

authorized for services and provided individual and group counseling to individuals in local
private, non profit and public substance abuse treatment facilities.
