The EPT (Patent Pending)
* Measures 3 phase current
and turns it to a PWM

Transmits it to the receiver
which turns the PWM sign
to a sine wave.
* The connection between
the transmitter and the
receiver is by fiber optic
wires for maximum safety
and reliability.

Calculating Motor’s Torque
Motor torque with soft starter
M soft = ( U soft / U n) 2
* M start
Assuming M start = 1.8 * M n
Assuming U start =0.5 Un M=(0.50)2
M soft = (0.25) * 1.8 = 0.45 M start
Torque is reduced by the square of the voltage reduction

Pump Stopping – D.O.L
 When motor starter (DOL) is
opened, abruptly stopping the
pump, speed and flow are
quickly reduced. This may
cause a Water Hammer
(mechanical shock and audible
noise with severe damage to
pipes, joints, fittings, valves,
etc. )DOL opens

SOLCON
Pump Stopping - Soft Starter (standard)
 When using a standard soft
starter, while pumping to a
higher elevation, motor
torque may quickly fall
below load torque (as torque
decreases at the square route
of voltage reduction). This
may cause abrupt stalling
instead of smoothly
decreasing speed to zero,
creating the Water Hammer
phenomenon.

Pump Control - Final Torque
 Before reaching end of deceleration, motor torque reaches a level
where the load torque is higher than motor's torque and motor stalls
while current continues flowing through the motor heating the

the motor stops rotating.

Starting from a Diesel-Generator
When starting from older D.G. sets (especially those equipped with low
cost Voltage Regulators) both voltage and frequency are unstable, causing
irregular thyristor firing. The HRVS-DN is equipped with a special
program overcoming the voltage and frequency instability.
Two options to operate Generator Mode:
 Use Basic Curve.
 set Dip Switch 3 to On and energize the Dual Adjustment Terminal.
When testing in Generator mode at low voltage, motor must be loaded.
When motor can operate from Mains and D.G (stand-by D.G) set
Dip Switch # 3 to On. However, Dual Adjustment Terminal should be
energized only when D.G. is running.

Overload
Overload - Trips the starter when current increases above the O/L Trip level after
the inverse time curve delay.
Remember - Overload protection is functional only during RUN condition,
after Max Start Time. During Start time motor is protected by
Max Start Time.

SOLCON
Under / No Voltage
Under Voltage - Trips the starter when voltage drops
below the U/V Trip level after the selectable time delay.
With programmable auto-reset.
Adjustments:
 Trip level 50-90% of Un (Line - Line)
 Trip Delay 1-10 sec.
 The starter will trip immediately, overriding the the time delay, in
case voltage drops to zero
SOLCON
Over Voltage
Over Voltage - Trips the starter when voltage increases above the O/V Trip
level after the selectable time delay.
Adjustments:
 Trip level 110-125% of Un (Line - Line)
 Trip Delay 1-10 sec.
SOLCON
Phase Loss & Phase Sequence
Phase Loss - Trips the starter when one or two phases are missing for
over 1 sec. With programmable auto-reset.
Phase Sequence - Trips the starter immediately when phase sequence
is wrong
Note - There is no setting to allow working with wrong phase sequence
SOLCON
S.SCR / Wrong Motor Connection
 Trips the starter if motor is not properly connected
to starters’ Load terminals, 1,2 or 3 wires.
 Trips if current waveforms are wrong
 Disabled when in curve 0.
 Disabled for Generator starting.

SOLCON
Heatsink Over-temp.
Heatsink Over Temperature
- Trips the starter if thermal sensors mounted on starter’s heatsink sense
temperatures above 85 Deg. C.
- Sensors are of the N/O type
- Sensors are located on the top Heatsinks.
- Sensors are not isolated from Medium Voltage Heatsinks.
- “Sensor hot “ information is transferred to control module via fiber
optic
SOLCON
External Fault
External Fault – Inputs from two N.O. contacts. The starter trips
2 sec. after the any of the contact closes.
RVS-DN
Applications
* Water level for pumps
* Oil level for compressors
SOLCON
Current Imbalance
Current Imbalance - Trips the motor when the unbalanced current
increases above the preset current, and for time period above the
preset delay.
Adjustments:
 Trip level 10-100% of I FLA
 Trip Delay 1-60 sec.
SOLCON
Ground Fault Current
Ground Fault - Trips the motor when Ground Current increases above
the preset current, and for more then time period delay.
Adjustments:
 Trip level 10-100% of I FLA
 Trip Delay 1-60 sec.
 Protection can be disabled with dip switch
SOLCON
Power on & No start
Power On and No Start -
This protection becomes operational upon mains voltage connection.
It trips the motor when mains is connected to the HRVS-DN for more
then 30 seconds without a Start signal.
Designed to prevent overheating of the voltage dividing resistors in
the power section.
SOLCON
By - Pass Open
By - Pass Open - Becomes operational when the by-pass contactor did
not close after EOA contact command the pilot ( interposing) relay to
close.
