The objective is to consider challenges and needs in shaping the years ahead. Experts are asked to think beyond today's conventional wisdom and provide expansive, creative insights in response to all questions. Information collected will be kept confidential and contributors will be acknowledged after the conclusion of the foresight study. The results will help understand challenges for the future of GISTs.

Concept mapping is a technique rooted in the constructivist theory that learning is an active process that happens through the interaction of experience and new ideas. In the how-to session associated with this paper, attendees learn how to create concept maps as a tool for effective communication in museums both internally and with visitors. Presenters share three examples of how they used concept mapping in the development of digital projects, collaboratively create a concept map to demonstrate process and benefit, and lead a concept mapping session.
Objectives of the session include that participants learn how to create and facilitate a collective concept-mapping experience. Participants reflect collectively on the value and application of concept mapping as a way to see a familiar idea “sideways,” from new perspectives and depths; visualize thinking; identify common ground across collaborators; and collect, organize, and share ideas. Participants also brainstorm and explore possible internal/external applications.

When Agile Estimating is not Sufficient
Agile evangelists frequently skip the realities of the world. This is especially true when it comes to estimation. It often appears as if authors and presenters live in a world in which the customer is always a deep-pocketed in-house resource, with an abundance of confidence in the development team.
The realities, however, is that whether doing in-house development or contracting, the customer expects estimates for the development work. Potential benefits have to be weighed against estimated costs.
This talk deals with why estimation is crucial also in an Agile world.
Agile projects are hardly immune to overruns, delays and bad business decisions based on poor estimates. Before one can sit down and use “Planning Poker” or similar techniques for estimating sprints or releases, it is often necessary to provide a relative accurate estimate of total project delivery schedule and costs.
The talk presents five collaborative techniques to use for estimating software projects up front:
Delphi
Wideband Delphi
Unstructured groups
Statistical groups
Decision markets
All techniques have various strengths and weaknesses. They have been detailed to a great extent in the literature, but actual experiences and scientific results for use in Agile projects are scarce.
Combination techniques also supplement each other, and may be appropriate to use at different stages of a project. I.e. some techniques are more suitable for estimating projects up front (e.g. in bidding), some are good for release planning, and some are good for more detailed sprint planning.
Mutation Testing for Task-Oriented Chatbots
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

When Agile Estimating is not Sufficient
Agile evangelists frequently skip the realities of the world. This is especially true when it comes to estimation. It often appears as if authors and presenters live in a world in which the customer is always a deep-pocketed in-house resource, with an abundance of confidence in the development team.
The realities, however, is that whether doing in-house development or contracting, the customer expects estimates for the development work. Potential benefits have to be weighed against estimated costs.
This talk deals with why estimation is crucial also in an Agile world.
Agile projects are hardly immune to overruns, delays and bad business decisions based on poor estimates. Before one can sit down and use “Planning Poker” or similar techniques for estimating sprints or releases, it is often necessary to provide a relative accurate estimate of total project delivery schedule and costs.
The talk presents five collaborative techniques to use for estimating software projects up front:
Delphi
Wideband Delphi
Unstructured groups
Statistical groups
Decision markets
All techniques have various strengths and weaknesses. They have been detailed to a great extent in the literature, but actual experiences and scientific results for use in Agile projects are scarce.
Combination techniques also supplement each other, and may be appropriate to use at different stages of a project. I.e. some techniques are more suitable for estimating projects up front (e.g. in bidding), some are good for release planning, and some are good for more detailed sprint planning.

Mutation Testing for Task-Oriented Chatbots
Conversational agents, or chatbots, are increasingly used to access all sorts of services using natural language. While open-domain chatbots - like ChatGPT - can converse on any topic, task-oriented chatbots - the focus of this paper - are designed for specific tasks, like booking a flight, obtaining customer support, or setting an appointment. Like any other software, task-oriented chatbots need to be properly tested, usually by defining and executing test scenarios (i.e., sequences of user-chatbot interactions). However, there is currently a lack of methods to quantify the completeness and strength of such test scenarios, which can lead to low-quality tests, and hence to buggy chatbots.
To fill this gap, we propose adapting mutation testing (MuT) for task-oriented chatbots. To this end, we introduce a set of mutation operators that emulate faults in chatbot designs, an architecture that enables MuT on chatbots built using heterogeneous technologies, and a practical realisation as an Eclipse plugin. Moreover, we evaluate the applicability, effectiveness and efficiency of our approach on open-source chatbots, with promising results.

From Natural Language to Structured Solr Queries using LLMs
This talk draws on experimentation to enable AI applications with Solr. One important use case is to use AI for better accessibility and discoverability of the data: while User eXperience techniques, lexical search improvements, and data harmonization can take organizations to a good level of accessibility, a structural (or “cognitive” gap) remains between the data user needs and the data producer constraints.
That is where AI – and most importantly, Natural Language Processing and Large Language Model techniques – could make a difference. This natural language, conversational engine could facilitate access and usage of the data leveraging the semantics of any data source.
The objective of the presentation is to propose a technical approach and a way forward to achieve this goal.
The key concept is to enable users to express their search queries in natural language, which the LLM then enriches, interprets, and translates into structured queries based on the Solr index’s metadata.
This approach leverages the LLM’s ability to understand the nuances of natural language and the structure of documents within Apache Solr.
The LLM acts as an intermediary agent, offering a transparent experience to users automatically and potentially uncovering relevant documents that conventional search methods might overlook. The presentation will include the results of this experimental work, lessons learned, best practices, and the scope of future work that should improve the approach and make it production-ready.
