4. Puberty is a key stage in the transition
from childhood to adulthood. It is a normal
part of growing up, and each person's
experience of it is unique.

What is a period?
• It is a small amount of bleeding that comes
out from the private area.
• A cycle is the first day of one period to the
first day of your next period.
• Cycles may be short or long.
First time Period/ Menstruation
• Excited? A little scared? These emotional
reactions are normal, having all information
that you need about your first period will give
you the confidence you need to handle the
situation.
• Most girls get their period when they’re
around 12 but getting it at any time between
10 and 15 years old is normal.
• Most of the time, a girl get’s her period about
2 years after her breasts start to develop

• Growing taller. You'll get taller, and this
might happen quite quickly.

• Hair grows on your body.
• Periods start.
• Vaginal discharge begins.

Emotional Changes
• Feeling overly sensitive.
• Looking for an identity.
• Feeling uncertain.
• Peer pressure.
• Conflicting thoughts.
• Mood swings.
• Feeling conscious about yourself.
• Getting sexual feelings.

Pre-Menstrual Syndrome
P.M.S stands for :
• Premenstrual syndrome
• It is a combination of
symptoms that women
suffer from a week or so
before their periods.
What are the
symptoms of
P.M.S?
• Symptoms include both
physical and emotional
such as:
1. Swollen or tender
breasts and stomach
2. Feeling tired
3. Headache or backache
4. Mood swings
What causes PMS?
• Changes in hormonal
level seem to be the
cause.
• Chemical changes in the
brain is also involved.

Sanitary Pads
• A sanitary pad is a thin pad
made of absorbent material
that absorbs the blood/ fluid
during your period.
• Most sanitary pads are
disposable and a meant for
a single use
• Wrap used pad in a small
plastic bag or tissue paper
and dispose in a garbage
bin and not in the toilet.
How to avoid
body smells?
• Shower daily
• Use a deodorant
• Change pad frequently in
the day depending on your
blood flow
Your period bag
should contain :
• Sanitary pads
• Sanitizer- to keep hands
clean.
• Small plastic packets- to
dispose of dirty pads
• Deodorant or some form
of scent.
