Giotto di Bondone was an Italian painter, sculptor and architect during the Italian Renaissance who abandoned medieval artistic limitations. Born in 1267 in Colle di Vespignano, he was a shepherd in childhood before moving to Florence to study under Cimabue. His paintings from 1290/1300 depicted religious characters and emotions like charity, despair, and envy through feelings and religious expression.
