Self–AssessmentReport
Kindergarten(Kinder4)
I completedthisstagewitha groupof4yearsold in ‘Cavagnaro Jardín’,inthetownwhereI live: Necochea.
ThisKindergartenhastwostimulusof30minutesperweekwherethestudentshaveanapproachtotheEnglish
Language,wheretheydevelopdifferentactivitiesandalsotheyhave abook tocomplete.
ThinkingBack
Tostartwiththisreport,oneofthemainaimsofthisexperiencewasrelatedwithofferingtostudents theopportunityto
developdifferentactivitiesrelatedwiththetopic:shapes. Herethestudents couldusethelanguageintheirsurround,
comparingandfindingtheshapesinthedifferentobjectsthattheyhadinthe classroom;suchasdoor,board,window,
andsoon.Making thisexperiencesignificantandrichfortheirknowledge becausenotonly they learntnewvocabulary
andsomestructuressuchas:it’s;butalsotheycouldactivatetheirpriorknowledge inevery single activity,whenthey
spokeaboutitscoloursandtocounttheshapes.
Thus,whenI thinkaboutmy ownlearningwiththis experience,I wasworriedaboutmyperformance,becauseunlessI
havesomeexperiencein kindergarten,notallthegroupsarethesameandI wasreally nervous.AlsoI wasworriedabout
thetime andthegamesthatthey woulddevelopinthe classroom,becausealwaysI trytousedifferentmaterialstocatch
theirattentionandmakethe classesmoredidactics.However,I couldsolvethiswhenI relaxedandenjoytheclassesas
they did.SoI couldsaythatI learnttoenjoywhatI loveto doand
ThinkingForward
IfI hadthechanceto developthispracticeagain,I wouldmakedifferentactivitieswherethestudentscouldinteract
between themactively respectingtheirturnandtheirplacetodevelopit.I think thatagoodchoicewouldbe using
interactivegames,takingintoaccountthatthechildrenlove them.
I considermyselfvery self – critical;andformy futureexperienceI willbe strictermakingthatallthe students(orthe
mostofthem)participate ortrytodo inevery activity orgame.Maybe I wouldchangetheplaceofthe tablesandchairs
in theclassroom,toobtainmorespacetomoveandplay.
Thisexperiencewasvery richforme;it helpedmeto gainexperienceasa teacherintheclassroomandseemyown
mistakesatthetime toteachsuchastheusageofthesecondlanguageduringthewholeclassorthemostofit
encouragingtostudentstouseitandrespecttheactivity.AlsoI want toadd,thatduring myobservationsandfirsttwo
classestherewasachildthatcry themostofthetime. At thebeginning I talkedwiththeteachertoknow iftherewasa
problem,hestartedkinder4 withoutdoingkinder3, sotheadaptationperiodwasterribleforhimandnowadaysthisis
a problemforhim.WhenI startedmyclasses,hecamewithmebut I couldn’tdo thathestartedtocry,heonly wanted
togo tohishome.Soin frontofthatsituation,I wouldliketocontainandbe morewithhim.
Finally I believe thatthisperiodinkinder wasusefulanditwill affectpositivelyin my futurepedagogicaldecisions,
taking allthe commentsintoaccountandalwaysdoingmybest in theclassroom.
ThinkingInward
Now thatI broke theice andI could finishthisexperienceandmy tutor’sfeedbackwascompletelyconstructive,I feel
moreconfidentwithmy performance,itwasafunnyexperience,howeverI havetoconfessthatI wasverynervous
becausethegroupwasabig oneandthechildrenwerequite noisy, but I knowthatI did my best efforttocompletethe
mainobjective: teach.
I felt comfortable,thegroupworkwaswonderfulandtheirtreatwasverykind.Notonly theheadteacher,butalsothe
Englishteacher helpedmewiththevideos,they worriedaboutthechildren,materialandsoon.I lovedthisexperiencein
spiteofmy initial nervousandworriesaboutmyownperformance.
ThinkingOutward
I considerthatthinkingoutwardmayencourageteachers tobemoreself-criticalandtakewhattheyconsidermore
relevantfortheirclasses.I thinkthatit isvery interestingandusefultakeotherviewpointsandattitudesintoaccount, in
ordertoimprovetheirperformanceanduseotherstrategiesandideastoenrichtheirexperiences.
AlwaysI tryto havea fluidcommunicationwithotherteachers,notonlywithEnglishteachers.I thinkthatneverstop
learningandthebest way tokeep onlearningis asking, observingandtaking thecommentsfromotherteachers’
experiences.
