1) To Kill a Mockingbird follows Scout Finch and her brother Jem as they grow up in Alabama in the 1930s. Their father, Atticus, defends Tom Robinson, a black man falsely accused of raping a white woman. 2) Despite clear evidence of Tom's innocence, an all-white jury convicts him. He is later killed trying to escape from prison. 3) After the trial, Bob Ewell, the man who falsely accused Tom, attacks Scout and Jem. They are saved by their mysterious neighbor, Arthur "Boo" Radley.
