Re: Revision of the Posting of Workers Directive: encouragement to maintain the
proposal form the TUC's of the consecutive EU Presidencies (NL, SK, MT)
Dear Commissioner Thyssen,
FNV, CNV, VCP, KOZ SR, For-Um, GWU; the Trade Untion Confederations of the
consecutive EU Presidencies of the Netherlands, Slovakia and Malta, wish to confirm
that the trade unions in the Netherlands, Slovakia and Malta, are strongly in favor of
the revision of the Posting of Workers Directive. We firmly support the principle of “equal
pay for equal work in the same place”, for we believe that “equal pay for equal work
in the same place” should be the golden rule of free movement within the European
Union.
FNV, CNV, VCP, KOZ SR, For-Um, GWU, therefore welcomed your proposal for the
revision of the Posting of Workers Directive and considered it a “step in the right
direction” as it put the protection of mobile workers and especially the broader
remuneration protection back on the political agenda in Europe.
Recently 1/3 of the national parliaments of the Member States initiated the yellow card
procedure, each for their own reasons; primarily these countries fear that the revision
of the Posting of Workers Directive may endanger their competitive advantage over
other member states (with the exception of Denmark, that rather fears to much
'interference' in its own national system). FNV, CNV, VCP, KOZ SR, For-Um, GWU and
CMTU regret this move.
Of course, it is now up to the European Commission to give due attention to the
objections of those national parliaments that are against the proposal. The joint Trade
Union Confederations of the consecutive EU Presidencies ofthe Netherlands, Slovakia
and Malta, however, wish to encourage you to maintain the current proposal, and to
allow a democratic debate to take place in the course of a normal legislative
procedure.
