Georgia O'Keeffe was an American artist born in 1887 in Wisconsin. She showed an early interest in art and decided by age 10 that she wanted to be an artist. She studied art in Chicago and New York and her early works were abstract paintings. O'Keeffe is known for her large-format paintings of flowers, New York cityscapes, and objects from the New Mexico landscape like bones and rocks, which she featured after spending time there beginning in the 1920s. She lived much of her later life in New Mexico, where she died in 1986 at the age of 98.
