This document provides an overview of Geonetwork, an open source software for cataloguing geospatial data. It discusses why Geonetwork is needed, including to catalogue geospatial data, expose metadata in ISO standards, and implement spatial searches. Geonetwork is adopted because it is open source, has an active community and userbase, and allows for easy updates. The document then covers how to deploy and use Geonetwork, loading metadata standards and records, and harvesting from OGC services. Known deployments of Geonetwork around the world are also listed.

• We need a software that can catalogue our Geospatial data in
geoscience domain.
• We need to expose our catalogue metadata in a format widely
accepted such as ISO standards.
• We need to implement spatial search on the metadata.

3. Why Geonetwork ?
• We do not want to reinvent the wheel.
• We want to adopt an open source software that has a good
community and userbase.
• We want to get the latest updates in software and metadata
standards with minimum effort.
• At present the project is widely used as the basis of Spatial Data
Infrastructures all around the world.

6. How do we do it ?
• The packaged war file can be deployed using Tomcat.
• Configure metadata standards.
• Add records to the catalogue.
• OGC APIs such as WMS and WFS can be harvested for semi automatic
cataloguing.
