This document provides an overview of Session 17 which will include a Skype presentation with a South African professor and anti-apartheid activist on the topics of power, identity, and global landscapes. It will also include the handing back of a critical review. The session will discuss chapters from Norton on cultural geography, identities, and inequalities. Readings will also cover the mistaking idea of race and reality of racism. Key details on apartheid in South Africa are provided such as its official policy of racial segregation practiced between 1948-1994 which involved political, legal and economic discrimination against non-whites.
