Geothermal energy uses hot water found naturally underground or artificially injected into rock reservoirs to generate electricity in power plants. While it produces clean energy, geothermal reservoirs only last 15 years to regenerate, making it not truly renewable. The technology can also be expensive, but Iceland benefits from large geothermal reservoirs that allow electricity production to be profitable.
