use circles, so we must use a square
instead.
➢As a kanji element, it can refer to any opening - the
mouth of a jar, or the mouth of a river, or the
entrance to a cave, etc.

日
➢Open the window, it’s a new day!
➢A day is split into two halves, AM and PM.
➢As a kanji element, it can mean day or sun.
5. month
月
➢A month is longer than a day, and this
stylized picture of the crescent moon also
has longer legs.
➢Element meanings: month, moon; flesh or part of
the body
6. rice field
田
➢A rice field seen from above. The center
paths make it easy to do your gardening.
7. eye
目
➢A strange sideways eye, rotated 90°. The
top and bottom parts are white, and the
middle is the colored iris.
➢As an element, this kanji may appear as-is on the
left, or rotated on top: 罒. You may wish to
remember the alternate version as look down on.
