"My Father owned a jewelry store for over 50 years. My brothers are all jewelers as well and
my Dad taught the trade to my husband. This has been a huge part of my life. I watched my
Dad make a personalized necklace for mom, among probably hundreds of other jewelry
gifts for her birthday and Christmas. Her Christmas stocking always had some sort of
jewelry, and that tradition carried over to me and my sister. It wasn’t always anything
elaborate, but we always found something special in our Christmas stockings. I remember
many traditions that revolve around jewelry through my life. Every baby girl in the family
received a 14k yellow gold personalized necklace with their name in the shape of a heart for
their Blessing Day! It has been something everyone looks forward to. My Dad created
beautiful “discs”, round pendants with hand engraved names on them, for customers for
over 50 years. Many families created their own tradition of giving these disc pendants. We
have seen mothers, daughters and granddaughters all wearing their discs! Now that my
Dad has passed away, some of his customers now come to my husband to continue the
tradition. Not many months ago my husband was getting lunch and the server was wearing
a heart necklace her father had made for her 8th birthday. This was in a completely different
state that where this tradition began! When I was growing up I looked forward to turning 16
years old because my Dad made each of his children a ring with their initial, all six of us!

2. Then when we graduated from high school he filled in the initial with diamonds. I have this
ring still and it means so much because my Dad made it and it was a tradition I looked so
forward to. My Dad, brothers and husband are all gifted jewelers. My husband took up the
craft of hand engraving, taught by my Dad who was a master of. My husband has such a
talent with hand engraving and creating one of a kind designs for friends and customers. My
own little family has continued the tradition of personalized heart necklaces for our
Granddaughters. I also am surprised occasionally with a piece of jewelry in my stocking,
and my husband creates beautiful pieces for our Daughters in Law. We look forward to
continuing the traditions started by my Dad. When my Mother passed away, my sister and I
had the privilege of going through our Mothers jewelry and deciding who would be gifted
with the pieces that she loved so much. I am so grateful to wear one of her beautiful rings
and every time I see it, I think of her. We were able to give some jewelry to all of her
Granddaughters and Daughter in Laws that they each treasure. I also have a diamond
necklace that she wore through all of my life. There is a teardrop shape pendant that my
Dad made her when I was born, and it is now surrounded by a heart piece full of diamonds
that my Dad added for Mom on my 16th Birthday. It is very sentimental to me. I watched her
wear it my whole life and all of her grandbabies play with it when she held them. Now my
own grandchildren play with it when I hold them as I wear it often. These are precious
memories. What makes jewelry sentimental to me starts with the one who designs and
crafts the piece. Then the thought behind creating and giving such a beautiful and personal
gift. Finally, I have watched jewelry passed from one generation to another, creating new
sentimental value that will continue on. "
Lisa has been able to create many "precious memories" over the years. Most of us aren't as
lucky as she is, having a husband and father as master hand engravers, but that doesn't
mean you can't take part in similarly powerful sentimental moments.
