



Overseeing marketing, sponsorship, membership and communications
Working with grass roots through to elite netball
Managing a small dedicated team

Netball SA is the peak State Sporting Organisation for netball in South Australia and is affiliated with Netball
Australia. Netball is the leading women's participation sport and top team based sport in Australia.
Netball SA is responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of netball throughout
South Australia and has the responsibility for servicing its 30,000 members, the operations of Netball SA Stadium
and the running of its elite team, the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
The Adelaide Thunderbirds are a professional netball team competing in the ANZ Championship. The
Thunderbirds are owned and operated by Netball SA and are a key strategic component of promoting and
developing the game of netball in South Australia.
The General Manager - Commercial Operations has responsibility for achieving the commercial objectives of the
Netball SA Strategic Plan, including growing the revenue base of the organisation and building a strong brand
presence and identity.
The role oversees the marketing, sponsorship, membership and communication functions of the business and
leads a team of four FTE that is responsible for delivering outcomes that benefit the sport at every level.
Key areas of responsibility in the role include:








Provide strategic leadership and manage the planning, budgeting and operational activities of the of the
Commercial Operations department
Provide leadership, direction and effective management of the Commercial Operations team
Ensure that Netball SA has a diverse revenue base from commercial activities and deliver revenue targets
and maximise returns for the business from commercial properties
Ensure that Netball SA has a sustainable and diverse corporate partnership portfolio through strong
relationship management of stakeholders
Develop strong working relationships with the media and maximise the awareness of the sport at all levels
Work with the Netball SA Leadership Team to grow the sport and deliver outstanding outcomes to the
membership and stakeholders
Overseeing the marketing function to build and maintain a strong brand presence and identity of netball
within South Australia

Ideally suiting current applicants with strong leadership skills with proven success in planning, implementing and
delivering commercial outcomes in a team environment, it is expected the successful applicant will have relevant
tertiary qualification in business, marketing or equivalent industry related experience. Applicants with an
understanding of the sporting/not for profit and commercial sectors are strongly encouraged. A competitive salary
package including a maintained motor vehicle is on offer to the successful applicant.

Full-time, permanent position based at Netball SA Stadium

Environment:
Netball SA is the peak State Sporting Organisation for netball in South Australia and is affiliated with
Netball Australia.
Netball is the leading women's participation sport and top team based sport in Australia.
Netball SA is responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of netball
throughout South Australia and has the responsibility for servicing its 30,000 members, the
operations of Netball SA Stadium and the running of its elite team, the Adelaide Thunderbirds
As a professional sporting organisation with extensive community reach, Netball SA is a key tool to
enhance the reputation of the sport and to communicate news of significance to members, fans,
supporters and the general public.
The Adelaide Thunderbirds are a professional netball team competing in the ANZ Championship. The
Thunderbirds are owned and operated by Netball SA and are a key strategic component of
promoting and developing the game of netball in South Australia.
Position Scope:
The General Manager - Commercial Operations has responsibility for achieving the commercial
objectives of the Netball SA Strategic Plan, including growing the revenue base of the organisation
and building a strong brand presence and identity.
The role oversees the marketing, sponsorship, membership and communication functions of the
business and leads a team of four FTE that is responsible for delivering outcomes that benefit the
sport at every level.
Due to the nature of the role work out of normal business hours will be required, as well as
interstate travel on occasions.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
 Provide strategic leadership and manage the planning, budgeting and operational activities
of the of the Commercial Operations department
 Provide leadership, direction and effective management of the Commercial Operations team
 Ensure that Netball SA has a diverse revenue base from commercial activities and deliver
revenue targets and maximise returns for the business from commercial properties
 Ensure that Netball SA has a sustainable and diverse corporate partnership portfolio
 Maximise benefits for the organisation from the National Commercial Workgroup
 Execute strategies across Netball SA, Adelaide Thunderbirds and Netball SA Stadium to
ensure that the organisation has a strong brand presence and identity in the community
 Develop strong working relationships with the media and maximise the awareness of the
sport at all levels
 Manage the use of social and digital media to strengthen communication with stakeholders
 Drive the implementation of the MyNetball technology platform to improve the business
performance of the organisation and engage Netball SA members and stakeholders
 Work with the Netball SA Leadership Team to grow the sport and deliver outstanding
outcomes to the membership and stakeholders
Team performance:
 Contribute to the overall success of the Netball SA team through open and honest
communication, respect for others and reporting progress regularly
 Take a proactive role in fostering a positive, enterprising and success-driven culture within
Netball SA
 Participate in the Performance Development Review Process which includes regular review
of performance against the responsibilities and performance objectives
 Perform the responsibilities of the role in a manner which reflects and responds to
continuous improvement
Skills, Experience and Personal Attributes:
Essential:
 Tertiary qualifications in business, marketing or similar and/or equivalent industry
experience in a related field
 Exceptional verbal and written communication skills

Strong leadership skills with proven success in planning, implementing and delivering
commercial outcomes in a team environment
Demonstrated ability to build relationships and manage stakeholder engagement
An extensive network of business and commercial contacts
Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and proven ability to work with a
complex and diverse group of stakeholders.
Experience in driving and growing a brand and managing media relationships
Demonstrated ability to manage financial resources and deliver budget targets.
Exceptional negotiation and influencing skills
The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver outcomes with deadlines
Exceptional computer skills and information technology literacy
A current driver’s license.

Highly desirable:
 An understanding of the sport/not for profit/commercial sectors

 An understanding of the trends in marketing, PR and commercial activities in the sporting
sector

Hours of work:
 The position is full-time and the nature of the role requires out of hours, weekend work and

Current Vacancy General Manager- Commercial Operations    Overseeing marketing, sponsorship, membership and communications Working with grass roots through to elite netball Managing a small dedicated team Netball SA is the peak State Sporting Organisation for netball in South Australia and is affiliated with Netball Australia. Netball is the leading women's participation sport and top team based sport in Australia. Netball SA is responsible for the governance, development, promotion and administration of netball throughout South Australia and has the responsibility for servicing its 30,000 members, the operations of Netball SA Stadium and the running of its elite team, the Adelaide Thunderbirds. The Adelaide Thunderbirds are a professional netball team competing in the ANZ Championship. The Thunderbirds are owned and operated by Netball SA and are a key strategic component of promoting and developing the game of netball in South Australia. The General Manager - Commercial Operations has responsibility for achieving the commercial objectives of the Netball SA Strategic Plan, including growing the revenue base of the organisation and building a strong brand presence and identity. The role oversees the marketing, sponsorship, membership and communication functions of the business and leads a team of four FTE that is responsible for delivering outcomes that benefit the sport at every level. Key areas of responsibility in the role include:        Provide strategic leadership and manage the planning, budgeting and operational activities of the of the Commercial Operations department Provide leadership, direction and effective management of the Commercial Operations team Ensure that Netball SA has a diverse revenue base from commercial activities and deliver revenue targets and maximise returns for the business from commercial properties Ensure that Netball SA has a sustainable and diverse corporate partnership portfolio through strong relationship management of stakeholders Develop strong working relationships with the media and maximise the awareness of the sport at all levels Work with the Netball SA Leadership Team to grow the sport and deliver outstanding outcomes to the membership and stakeholders Overseeing the marketing function to build and maintain a strong brand presence and identity of netball within South Australia Ideally suiting current applicants with strong leadership skills with proven success in planning, implementing and delivering commercial outcomes in a team environment, it is expected the successful applicant will have relevant tertiary qualification in business, marketing or equivalent industry related experience.
