Minerals are naturally occurring inorganic solids with a defined chemical composition and crystalline structure. Most minerals are made up of combinations of common elements like oxygen, silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium, and magnesium. Minerals form in different crystal structures and exhibit physical properties like cleavage, hardness, luster, and streak that can be used to identify them. There are several classes of minerals including silicates, carbonates, and sulfides, with silicate minerals making up over 90% of the Earth's crust. Important rock-forming minerals are quartz, feldspar, mica, amphibole, pyroxene and olivine in the silicate class and calcite in the carbonate class.
Petrology is the branch of geology that studies rocks. It includes the origin and formation of rocks (petrogenesis) and their classification and description (petrography). There are three main types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. Igneous rocks form from cooling magma or lava. Sedimentary rocks form from the compaction and cementation of sediments. Metamorphic rocks form from changes to existing igneous and sedimentary rocks via heat, pressure, and chemical reactions.
A copy of the presentation I gave at the AusIMM 2009 International Uranium Conference. It outlines some testing I conducted on a Brannerite ore to beneficiate it.
The document summarizes a presentation on leaching Brannerite ores given at the 2010 International Uranium Conference. It discusses the challenges in leaching Brannerite based on past research, results from bottle roll and agitation leach tests on Brannerite samples, and conclusions. The tests showed that a temperature of 90°C was required to achieve significant uranium extraction. Higher free acid levels improved initial extraction rates but not overall recovery. Grind size had little impact on recovery, possibly because acid attacks gangue minerals. More research is needed to optimize temperature, acid level, and grind size.
This document outlines various HTML elements grouped into categories such as lists, forms, tables, links, text formatting, and more. It provides the element name and a brief description for common HTML tags like headings, paragraphs, images, lists, and tables. It also includes some character entities and attributes that can be used with different elements.

The document provides a report on establishing a community garden on a vacant lot located at 245 Welch Street in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It discusses operational scenarios, resource requirements, design considerations, construction plans for raised beds, and next steps for implementing a garden. The goal is to utilize the underutilized asset in a way that benefits the local neighborhood by providing a public amenity and encouraging community involvement and investment.
Schmallenberg virus is a novel-emerging insect-borne Orthobunyavirus that was first identified in cattle in Germany in 2011. It causes acute disease in cattle and abortions, stillbirths, and birth defects in sheep and goats. The virus is transmitted by Culicoides biting midges and has spread rapidly across Europe since first being identified, infecting over 1 in 4 flocks and herds in some countries. While not transmissible to humans, it poses a serious threat to livestock production through its ability to cause developmental abnormalities in newborn animals if their mothers are infected during pregnancy. Surveillance and vaccination are recommended to control further spread.
Researcher Judy Hoy has been documenting diseases and birth defects in wildlife for 50 years. She has observed increasing rates of cancers, tumors, and physical deformities in birds and mammals since 1995. Specifically, she has seen more cases of underdeveloped jaws, enlarged hearts, lung spots and bleeding, hoof problems, and malformed organs. Hoy believes these increases in health issues are linked to rising use of the herbicide Roundup on Roundup Ready crops in the region near her research area. The document includes photos of tumors observed on various birds and mammals between 2007-2010, which coincided with increased Roundup usage on local farms.
The document discusses the order Perissodactyla, which includes three families: Equidae (horses, zebras, asses), Tapiridae (tapirs), and Rhinocerotidae (rhinoceroses). Perissodactyls are odd-toed ungulates that distribute their weight on their central digits. They have teeth adapted for grinding plants and large colons with microbes to digest cellulose. Key characteristics include hooved feet and grazing behavior. The three families differ in number of toes, skull shape, teeth structure, and habitat but are all considered threatened.
1. The document discusses several chest CT and histology cases showing abnormalities including nodules, consolidation, and ground-glass opacity.
2. One case shows centrilobular nodules connected by linear structures, known as a tree-in-bud pattern, indicative of endobronchial infection.
3. Histology slides illustrate granulomas with necrosis, palisading histiocytes, and aerated alveolar parenchyma consistent with tuberculosis. Differential diagnoses include fungal infection and Wegener's granulomatosis.

Bromhidrosis, also known as body odor, is caused by bacterial breakdown of sweat from apocrine and eccrine glands. It is more common in post-pubescent individuals and in darker-skinned ethnic groups. Treatment focuses on reducing sweat and bacteria through topical antiperspirants, oral antibiotics, or Botox injections into the underarms. Lifestyle changes like frequent showering and avoiding triggers can also help manage bromhidrosis.
