Profile I am a creative and analytical buildings professional with over 25 years’ experience of
providing facilities management across all types of buildings and services. A strong
communicator with a passion for planning, leading and improving front line operations that
results in customer focused, integrated, and transformational staff and performance which
add value to an institutions core business.
I have, throughout my career, sought roles that have progressively enhanced my
effectiveness and understanding of the multiple disciplines that affect the staff and student
experience within a university setting. I have worked both in-house and under service
contracts across all soft FM disciplines - starting in a multi-site commercial background
focusing on student housing; cleaning; catering; & hospitality - then specializing in
residential management, before expending into truly campus wide roles.
My strength is in using this breadth of experience to account for all aspect of a particular
institutional setting, from its culture to the complex interfaces which effect performance, in
providing customer focused communication and delivery solutions that are integrated,
compliant, and inspiring for all stakeholders.
Experience University College London, (Sept 2012 – Dec 2016) – Facilities Manager
Responsible for the customers experience of all aspects of the built environment, my role
initially was to ensure a quality staff and student experience across hard and soft FM
services to ten research institutes during their integration into UCL. In October of 2014 I
was asked to take over the Customer Services Centre to bring a culture of continuous
improvement through integrated customer focused systems, communications, and
processes. I absorbed further areas of responsibility in 2015 which included Academic
Timetabling; Teaching Space design and maintenance; Conferencing and Events; Room
Bookings; and reactive maintenance.
Royal Holloway, UoL, (Jan 2003 – Sept 2012) - Head of Accommodation Services
Responsible for 3000 residential bed spaces and 60 academic buildings the role existed to
create and deliver a consistent, integrated, quality experience of the residential and
academic buildings. The role was designed to be the client representative for the Facilities
Management Department which was created to merge two previously separate ‘service
areas’ (Estates and Campus Services). Accommodation Services were responsible for the
‘customer experience’ across all uses of residential and teaching space - residential lettings;
inclusive design; signage and furniture procurement; health & safety; all soft FM services;
and external events. We upgraded our halls through cyclical and new build projects and
invested in our staffing to improve our our core competences across all customer facing

teams. The RCS account grew to £15m from £11m and the main account budget was
reduced to £1.5m from £2.3m.
London Metropolitan University (Sept 1996 – Jan 2003) – Residential Site Manager
Responsible for a 450 bed hall of residence the Manager has control of all aspects of the
operation and must produce and deliver on commercial targets across the calendar year.
This role was under the banner of Student Services so included pastoral care, allocation of
rooms, and disciplinary matters as well as an in-house team of mechanical and electrical
operatives; cleaners; porters; and office staff.
University of Greenwich (Sept 1991 – Sept 1996) –Site Services Manager
Responsible for teaching spaces; catering, security, cleaning, accommodation, waste, and
reactive maintenance across 3 sites on the University’s Roehampton Campus. The role was
to provide quality and customer focus across the hard and soft FM Services after the
University acquired the site from Univ of Roehampton.
Education University of North London, Sept 1998 – June 2000 MBA
A Master’s degree in business administration studying - accountancy, marketing, human
resource management, leadership, change-management, and business process re-
engineering.
University of Surrey, Sept 1987 – June 1990 BSc (Joint Honours)
Achieved a second class joint honours degree (English & Sociology)
Elliott School and XI From, Sept 1978 – June 1986 3 A Levels, 8 O Levels

Implementing consistent, optimal and safe systems of work.
A strong analytical approach which combines attention to detail within a broad strategic

Interest and Hobbies I am a keen golfer and enjoy most sports; I have a passion for reading and the arts however
my diet in this regard is hugely influenced by my exposure to the music, cinema, and
literature designed for the under 12’s (my daughter is 11).
