2. GARBAGE
Garbage is a waste product which is of no use in the
kitchen. It is a waste matter resulting from the
preparation, cooking and consumption of food. It
includes all inedible, spoilt and useless scraps of food.

1. Solid waste
2. Liquid waste
Solid Waste
Solid waste are solid in nature and can be waste food or non edible materials..Waste
food is dumped in green bin whereas non edible material is dumped in blue bin.
Liquid Waste
Liquid waste are liquid in nature and can be dumped in sink. For e.g sauce, soup,
gravies etc.

4. Garbage Bins
Bins which are used to dump garbage is known as garbage bins.
Following points should be kept in mind while buying garbage bin:-
■ The bins should be metallic, galvanised are better.
■ Must be of proper size.
■ Must be sturdy.
■ Must be easy to clean.
■ Must be painted to avoid rusting.
■ Must have proper fitting lids.

5. Garbage Bins
■ Should not have any leakage.
■ Always use garbage bag inside the bins.
■ Should be kept at proper place in kitchen.
■ Proper colour coding of garbage bin should be there.
■ Green bin is used for wet solid waste. For e.g. left over rice., vegetable peels etc.
■ Blue bin is used for dry solid waste. For e.g. polythene wrap, cans, bottles etc..

6. Methods of Garbage Disposal
Proper disposal is very important; some of them are as under:
■ Burial
Dry and wet garbage, dead pests etc may be buried in the ground. It is used where
less garbage is collected in day.
■ Incineration
Dry garbage may be burned in the incinerators.
■ Composting
It is a process in which edible garbage is buried inside the ground which gets
converted after a stipulated time. Manure which is made from garbage.
■ Land filling
Every type of solid waste may be used to fill low lying area far from the building.
