Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi was born in 1869 in Porbandar, India. He had an average childhood and was influenced by stories of non-violence and righteousness. He went to law school in England and South Africa, where he experienced racial discrimination, influencing his non-violent independence movement. Gandhi led several non-violent movements in India such as non-cooperation, salt march, and quit India movement. These movements increased pressure on the British and helped India gain independence in 1947, with Gandhi playing a pivotal role.
