History of Europe
The continent of Europe has been the home to some of the
greatest civilizations of the world—from Ancient Greece to the
Roman Empire. It is also known as the birthplace of modern
democracy.
Europe has been the focal point of two of the biggest wars in
the history: World War I and II. Recently, 28 countries of
Europe joined hands and formed a common union known as the
European Union. This union allows the use of one currency in
all the independent European countries and it is also bestowed
with the authority to combine the economic and military power
of these countries.

1. It is believed that the continent is named after ‘Europa’, a Phoenician Princess
from Greek Mythology.
2. The population of Europe is more than 800 million, making it the third most
populated continent.
3. Europe is made up of more than 40 different countries.
4. There are no deserts in Europe!
5. There are three time zones in Europe: Eastern European Time Zone, Central
European Time Zone and Western European Time Zone.
6. The Vatican City of Europe is the world’s smallest country.
7. The currency of Europe is called the Euro.
8. The highest point in the continent is the Caucasus Mountains.
9. The longest river on this continent is the Volga River.
10.The Industrial Revolution took birth in Europe and then spread to the whole world.

Austria’s capital is famous for its cultural events, imperial sights, coffee houses,

St. Stephan‘s Cathedral is the
symbol of Vienna. Construction commenced
in the 12th century. Today, it is one of the
most important Gothic structures in Austria.
Belvedere
is not only a magnificent Baroque palace but also
houses one of Austria's most valuable art collections
– with key works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele and
Oskar Kokoschka.
Schoenbrunn is one of Europe's most beautiful
Baroque complexes and has been in the possession of
the Habsburgs since 1569. The palace is a UNESCO
World Heritage site.

The greatest and finest sanctuary of ancient Athens,
dedicated primarily to its patron, the goddess
Athena, dominates the center of the modern city
from the rocky crag known as the Acropolis.
High above the Meteora landscape in the
central region of Greece, 60 monks and nuns
live in fabled monasteries perched on the edge
of sandstone peaks. In centuries past, their
place of worship brought them solitude and
protection from unwanted trespassers.
Delphi is famous as the ancient sanctuary that grew
rich as the seat of Pythia, the oracle consulted about
important decisions throughout the ancient classical
world.

gods promise you a divine experience. The highest of
Olympus’ peaks is Mytikas.
The symbol of Poland is a white eagle, and throughout the
country’s history, the eagle has sometimes been depicted
wearing a crown.

War, where Italy sided with the German
Nazis.

was classified as world cultural heritage by UNESCO
Fado is a music genre which can be traced to
the 1820s in Lisbon, Portugal, but probably
with much earlier origins.
In popular belief, fado is a form of music
characterized by lyrics, often about the sea or
the life of the poor. However, although the
origins are difficult to trace, today fado is
regarded, by many, as simply a form of song
which can be about anything, but must follow
a certain structure.

  • 2. History of Europe The continent of Europe has been the home to some of the greatest civilizations of the world—from Ancient Greece to the Roman Empire. It is also known as the birthplace of modern democracy. Europe has been the focal point of two of the biggest wars in the history: World War I and II. Recently, 28 countries of Europe joined hands and formed a common union known as the European Union. This union allows the use of one currency in all the independent European countries and it is also bestowed with the authority to combine the economic and military power of these countries.
