Paulina the hen finds a wheat seed while walking in the barnyard and decides to plant it. The duck refuses to help her. Paulina waters the seed herself and watches it grow into wheat. When the wheat is ready, she asks her fellow animals for help harvesting it but they refuse. Undaunted, Paulina takes the wheat to the mill alone, makes bread with the flour, and enjoys it. Her fellow animals then want some of her bread but she refuses to share after they did not help her.
