Using Panoramic Videos for Multi-Person Localization and Tracking In A 3D Pan...
3D panoramic multi-person localization and tracking are prominent in many applications, however, conventional methods using LiDAR equipment could be economically expensive and also computationally inefficient due to the processing of point cloud data. In this work, we propose an effective and efficient approach at a low cost. First, we utilize RGB panoramic videos instead of LiDAR data. Then, we transform human locations from a 2D panoramic image coordinate to a 3D panoramic camera coordinate using camera geometry and human bio-metric property (i.e., height). Finally, we generate 3D tracklets by associating human appearance and 3D trajectory. We verify the effectiveness of our method on three datasets including a new one built by us, in terms of 3D single-view multi-person localization, 3D single-view multi-person tracking, and 3D panoramic multi-person localization and tracking. All immersive technologies extend the reality we experience by either blending the Real and/or Virtual Worlds or by creating a fully immersive experience.

In this presentation I will examine how Location Analytics, as a technology solution and a term, is very rapidly becoming a mainstream concept in IT and GIS.
With examples, what one thought of as specialised tools, such as GIS, are now being ‘democratised’ and embedded in easy-to-use business processes and workflows.
With examples of how this could benefit the property and retail sector, I will examine the main and most important trends in, ‘Geospatial’ and Location Analytics that affect anyone involved in spatial analysis or GIS. These trends really are ‘game changers’ compared with the last 35 years of GIS and Location Technologies and need to be understood to leverage the potential benefits.
1. Cloud GIS – off-premise hosted mapping and location analytics tools. This can dramatically reduce costs and complexity of implementation.
2. ‘Big Data’ – analysing and visualising vast quantities of near real-time data
Location Analytics – the use of, what would have been called GIS technologies, embedded in systems for NON-specialist users.
3. Dynamic (Real-time) Mapping
4. Open Data – Open data from the UK and US for use in business context. This includes postcode data, which is now free to use
5. Mobility – Real-time maps in people’s pockets! with the ability to edit and capture new data
6. Embedding Location – In Processes and integration of Location in enterprise solutions – esp for Asset Management / ERP
7. Location for all – Location Analytics is becoming part of peoples’ jobs as part of a workflow. Typically non-specialist users are now leveraging ‘GIS-like’ technologies without even knowing.
Designing a more human-centric approach for GI
In this talk I expanded on the human needs of geospatial solutions - including user design, productivity and digital vs analog tools. Providing food for thought on the 'what', 'why' and 'how' of GIS and spatial problem-solving, this talk was delivered on 6 December 2019 at the University of Edinburgh's Institute of Geography as part of the EEO and AGI Scotland seminar series.

There is a great revolution in printing techniques ranging from hybrid printing, nano scale printing, micro dispensing to 3D printing for use in various industries. Over the past couple of years, there have been significant advancements in technology. Currently, the use of artificial intelligence robots cloud-based technology drones and voice assistance are the recent technological trends.
The most popular form of printing technology which you will come across today is 3D printing i.e. Three Dimension printing. The very first commercial 3D printer was based on 'stereo lithography' technique. In this presentation I will examine how Location Analytics, as a technology solution and a term, is very rapidly becoming a mainstream concept in IT and GIS.
With examples, what one thought of as specialised tools, such as GIS, are now being ‘democratised’ and embedded in easy-to-use business processes and workflows.
With examples of how this could benefit the property and retail sector, I will examine the main and most important trends in, ‘Geospatial’ and Location Analytics that affect anyone involved in spatial analysis or GIS. These trends really are ‘game changers’ compared with the last 35 years of GIS and Location Technologies and need to be understood to leverage the potential benefits.
1. Cloud GIS – off-premise hosted mapping and location analytics tools. This can dramatically reduce costs and complexity of implementation.
2. ‘Big Data’ – analysing and visualising vast quantities of near real-time data
Location Analytics – the use of, what would have been called GIS technologies, embedded in systems for NON-specialist users.
3. Dynamic (Real-time) Mapping
4. Open Data – Open data from the UK and US for use in business context. This includes postcode data, which is now free to use
5. Mobility – Real-time maps in people’s pockets! with the ability to edit and capture new data
6. Embedding Location – In Processes and integration of Location in enterprise solutions – esp for Asset Management / ERP
7. Location for all – Location Analytics is becoming part of peoples’ jobs as part of a workflow. Typically non-specialist users are now leveraging ‘GIS-like’ technologies without even knowing.
Designing a more human-centric approach for GI
In this talk I expanded on the human needs of geospatial solutions - including user design, productivity and digital vs analog tools. Providing food for thought on the 'what', 'why' and 'how' of GIS and spatial problem-solving, this talk was delivered on 6 December 2019 at the University of Edinburgh's Institute of Geography as part of the EEO and AGI Scotland seminar series.

The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.

Chris Jones, Director of Product Management at BrainChip , presents the “Temporal Event Neural Networks: A More Efficient Alternative to the Transformer” tutorial at the May 2024 Embedded Vision Summit.
The expansion of AI services necessitates enhanced computational capabilities on edge devices. Temporal Event Neural Networks (TENNs), developed by BrainChip, represent a novel and highly efficient state-space network. TENNs demonstrate exceptional proficiency in handling multi-dimensional streaming data, facilitating advancements in object detection, action recognition, speech enhancement and language model/sequence generation. Through the utilization of polynomial-based continuous convolutions, TENNs streamline models, expedite training processes and significantly diminish memory requirements, achieving notable reductions of up to 50x in parameters and 5,000x in energy consumption compared to prevailing methodologies like transformers.
Integration with BrainChip’s Akida neuromorphic hardware IP further enhances TENNs’ capabilities, enabling the realization of highly capable, portable and passively cooled edge devices. This presentation delves into the technical innovations underlying TENNs, presents real-world benchmarks, and elucidates how this cutting-edge approach is positioned to revolutionize edge AI across diverse applications.Dandelion Hashtable: beyond billion requests per second on a commodity server
This slide deck presents DLHT, a concurrent in-memory hashtable. Despite efforts to optimize hashtables, that go as far as sacrificing core functionality, state-of-the-art designs still incur multiple memory accesses per request and block request processing in three cases. First, most hashtables block while waiting for data to be retrieved from memory. Second, open-addressing designs, which represent the current state-of-the-art, either cannot free index slots on deletes or must block all requests to do so. Third, index resizes block every request until all objects are copied to the new index. Defying folklore wisdom, DLHT forgoes open-addressing and adopts a fully-featured and memory-aware closed-addressing design based on bounded cache-line-chaining. This design offers lock-free index operations and deletes that free slots instantly, (2) completes most requests with a single memory access, (3) utilizes software prefetching to hide memory latencies, and (4) employs a novel non-blocking and parallel resizing.
