This assignment was the first of the semester and required students to work in groups to decide which 4 of 13 people they would save in an apocalyptic scenario. They had to choose people who would be useful to the group's survival. The groups collectively chose to save the scientist, professor, doctor, and army officer, meaning they had to kill off people like the disabled person, pregnant woman, and five year old child. The assignment showed that the groups made similar choices and helped the students start practicing critical thinking skills which are important for the class.

1. This assignment was the first one given of the semester and also allowed us to meet the
people in our groups and be able to begin our critical thinking skills with them. The task at hand
was to put ourselves in an apocalyptic scenario and be able to decide between who we would
keep and who we would kill off. There were 13 people that we had to choose from, ranging
from drug-addict hippies to scientists. As a group, we had to agree on only four people to keep
which meant that the people we save had to be the right choice and be useful to the group’s
survival. It was tough to pick out who would be best fit to save as the ones we chose being the
scientist, professor, doctor, and army officer. This meant that we were killing off the people like
the disabled person, the pregnant woman, and the five year old. Once we, as a class,
collectively decided on the four people best it showed that we all pretty much had the same
idea on who to keep. What also showed is that we could have thought more about the people
we killed off and how they could have been useful. For example, the disabled person could
have had only a minor disability. With this assignment, we are only given limited information on
the people in it so we have to develop our own personas of them and think about who seems
best fit for survival. This assignment was an excellent way for us to begin thinking critically as
this class will be based on this concept.
