This document provides details of a design project about fixed gear bicycles. The project aims to inform people about the lifestyle of fixed gear riders in Kuala Lumpur and make riding safer and more stylish. Research methods included interviews with riders and observing popular hangout spots. The proposed design approach is an info graphic and audiovisual piece using video mapping to abstractly explain the fixed gear culture in an artistic way over 3 minutes. The final synopsis and examples of a poster, teaser video, and presentation are also included.

2. “FIXED GEAR”
A fixed-gear bicycle (or fixed-wheel bicycle, sometimes known as a fixie) is a bicycle that has
no freewheel, meaning it cannot coast, because the pedals are always moving when the
bicycle is in motion.

4. Problem Identification :
Fixed gear also transformed from track bike racing in velodrome to be an
urbanism sub culture. Even so, this bicycle is dangerous due of not having gears
and breaks. Also, and not all fixed gear bike rider care about their proper
equipment. Now a days fixed gear to be a lifestyle but so many teenagers don’t
understand how to use properly the fixed gear bike and the equipment or fashion
- How to make riding more fun and artsy.

Fixed Gear started out as a messenger that delivers good around town.
After that, fixed Gear grew as a sports that makes it a raw form of exercise.
The popularity of fixed Gear makes it a trend among hipsters.

8. Analysis
After completing the research methods, what I can conclude is that fixed gear is
suitable for people who are into extreme sports. There are no brakes and gears
at the bicycle so it made it dangerous. I discover a projection mapping on the
bike to give information people the lifestyle of the Fixed Gear rider in Kuala
Lumpur with artsy way.

9. Contextual Studies
fixed gear normally comes in big groups, like Ratskl, Midfix and many more.
They usually ride in big numbers, so this is a healthy way of socializing by doing
healthy activities. Not just by cycling, there are favorite spot for these riders to
hang out and talk about fixed gear, Also, it is not limited in Malaysia only, but
fixed gear riders from all over the world can communicate and exchange their
knowledge in order to grow this sport.

“Fixed Gear” is a video mapping that triggers the creative side of the brain on how to see
FIxed Gear Bike in an artsy way.
The objective of this video is to explain the lifestyle of the Fixed Gear rider in Kuala
Lumpur
The video will be 3 minutes long, where the audience will have a different point of view on fixed gear rider after watching it. Fixed gear is a very direct subject, so that is
why the video will be abstract and
conceptual.
For me, fixed gear is an ideal topic to explore because it is very current in our society now and to say fixed gear is a urban culture on
its own among the youngsters.
