Future of Social Interaction
1. Future of Social
Interaction
How do you imagine social interaction within 10 years, taking into
consideration the impact of technology on human relations?
Sandra Colucci for IE
2. Ubiquitous: Social Media
• Ubiquitous and powerful platforms: Social Media networks
influenced the American presidential elections and other cultural and
political events in the past 10 years
• In 2027 years we will be even more connected than we are now:
• We are going to share with friends and companies what is (and what is not) in
our fridge
• What is not considered private will be completely exposed
• All this sharing will lead us to be more opened to niche oriented social
networks, which will probably be smaller and more targeted to specific
interests, changing the current dominance of some networks

4. Innovations: the Good and the Bad
• As with most innovations, especially disruptive ones, there’s a
positive and a negative side
• Take instant translations as an example:
• in the near future, we will all be able to understand and speak any language
through software
• this can break a lot of barriers but people may lose the incentive of learning
other languages
• More fragmented social media networks
could lead to having to dedicate even more
time to social media
5. Read On
• We will finally see the complete
decline of books and print media
• Video, podcasts, live streaming,
emojis will take over most of the
communication, including in the
office
• Social Media Instant Messaging
tools will replace emails
• The Post Office will be dedicated
exclusively to delivering packages
6. Artificial Intelligence
• Talking and chatting to artificially generated intelligence applications
or software will also be normal
• AI will replace most customer service representatives
• AI will also replace more intricate relationships such as friends,
romantic partners, and therapists
7. One Screen – One Device
• Wearables and Malleable Screens are
going to be next big disruption
• We will get a lot more screen real-estate
on our phones, watches and tablets
• Phones and/or tablets will likely replace
your laptop as well as TVs later on
• We will spend even more time interacting
online due to the intuitiveness of it all
8. Neutrality
• The end of net neutrality (in the U.S.) could potentially make all these
developments slower. Companies and consumers may review their
strategies and habits if they have to pay per data usage
9. Human touch
• But nothing, simply nothing, can or will replace in person
interactions, no matter how much emphasis online relations take,
nothing will ever replace a hug or a strong handshake
