This document outlines a 5-stage functional progression protocol for athletes returning to sports activity following a lower extremity stress injury. Stage I involves walking and jogging intervals on a track to increase endurance. Stage II incorporates running intervals. Stage III introduces sprinting drills. Stage IV includes agility exercises like figure-8 runs and vertical jumping. Stage V allows a gradual return to practice and games with thorough warmups and cool downs. The progression is designed to rehabilitate the lower extremity and safely return the athlete to full sports participation.
