The workshop will teach bread making skills through hands-on instruction. It will be held on January 28th from 1-4pm at Loaf Cookery School in Birmingham. The workshop, led by baker Tom Baker, will focus on making bread using essential ingredients like flour, water, salt and yeast. There are only 5 spaces left so advance booking is required.
DeafPlus is looking for volunteer befrienders to support carers in Birmingham. Interested volunteers should contact Olivier Jamin by telephone, textphone, email or fax to learn more about available roles providing support to carers. DeafPlus works to integrate deaf and hearing communities.
The Birmingham CrossCity Clinical Commissioning Group is holding a public meeting on November 19th from 6pm to 8:30pm at the Jasper Carrot Suite at Birmingham City Football Club. The meeting will provide information on the CCG's health priorities for 2014/2015 and allow for conversations between attendees and the CCG chair and accountable officer. The Helping Hands project run by the National Deaf Children's Society aims to set up peer support schemes for deaf young people aged 10-18 in schools. The peer support schemes involve training students to act as "Peer Buddies" who can help new students settle in, listen to experiences, and provide academic support. Peer support is important for deaf children who are more likely to experience isolation, bullying, and mental health issues without proper support. The NDCS will provide training to Peer Buddies and support to teachers to implement the peer support schemes.

Welcome to the latest edition of Fun In Brum for October 2012 produced
by the Family Information Service (FIS). We hope you find the information
useful. There are loads of exciting things to do for all the family and some
of them are totally free to do. All the activities are in date order and we
have added contact details of Libraries and playschemes happening
across the city this Half Term.
Fun for All
This edition contains a wide range of activities including some for
disabled children and young people up to the age of 24 in some cases.
When we have been told that an activity or event is inclusive we have
added the following text – If your child or young person has a disability,
please call the organisation for further information. Whilst we have been
assured these activities are inclusive we would always recommend that
you call ahead to discuss your child’s needs to ensure they are able to
meet them.
