This document provides an introduction to exponents and exponential functions for 9th grade Algebra II students. It defines exponents as the number of times a base is used in multiplication. Exponents make writing repeated multiplication easier. The rules of exponents state that when multiplying terms with the same base, you add the exponents. A negative exponent means to take the reciprocal of the base raised to the positive exponent. The document provides examples of solving exponential equations by rewriting the bases to have a common base or using properties of exponents. It concludes by previewing the next lesson on standard form and graphing of exponential functions.
Exponents describe how many times to use a number in a multiplication. The laws of exponents are based on three main ideas: 1) the exponent says how many times to multiply the base, 2) a negative exponent means to divide the base, and 3) a fractional exponent means to take a root of the base. Some key exponent rules are: am * an = am+n, am / an = am-n, (ab)n = an * bn, and an/b = (a/b)n. A zero exponent equals 1 for any base.
Computer game physics engines use algebraic formulas and exponents to calculate movement and interactions in a game. If the math is incorrect, the game will not play as expected. Exponential functions are used to model phenomena that increase or decrease at rates proportional to their current values, such as population growth, viral spread, compound interest, and sound intensity over distance. Exponential curves show growth or decay happening at an accelerating pace compared to linear functions.
This document provides rules and explanations for operations involving exponents. It discusses:
1) The rule for adding or subtracting exponents with the same base, such as am + n = amxn or am ÷ an = am-n.
2) Exceptions when the bases are different, such as 23 x m4 ≠ 2m7.
3) The power of a power rule, such as (n2)4 = n8, which only works for a single positive base in brackets.
4) How to expand products and quotients with the same exponents, such as (2a)2 = 4a2, and simplify fractions with different bases but the same exponents.
1) The document discusses rules for exponents such as the product rule, quotient rule, power rule, and rules for negative exponents and exponents of zero.
2) Key rules covered include how to multiply or divide terms with the same base but different exponents, how to raise a product or quotient to a power, and how to rewrite expressions with negative exponents or exponents in the denominator.
3) The document provides examples and explanations of how to apply these various exponent rules when manipulating algebraic expressions.
Exponents are used to represent repeated multiplication of a number, called the base. The exponent indicates how many times the base is multiplied. Some key laws for exponents include: when multiplying the same bases, add the exponents; when dividing the same bases, subtract the exponents; when raising a power to another power, multiply the exponents. Exponents provide a shorthand way to write very large or small numbers.
The document discusses powers and exponents. It explains that multiplication is a shortcut for repeated addition, and exponents are a shortcut for repeated multiplication. An exponent written as a base number with a little number on top, where the base is the number being multiplied and the exponent tells how many times to multiply the base by itself. Common mistakes in working with exponents are also described.
The document discusses exponents and powers in mathematics. It defines key terms like base, exponent, and power. It provides examples of exponents like 22 = 4 (two squared) and 23 = 8 (two cubed). It notes rules for exponents like when the exponent is 1 the number is the same as the base, and when the exponent is 0 the answer is 1 except for when the base is 0. The document also discusses properties of exponents like product of powers, power to a power, power of product, and addition/multiplication of exponents.
This document introduces the laws of exponents. It defines key terms like exponent, base, and power. It then outlines six laws of exponents: 1) the product law, 2) the quotient law, 3) the power law, 4) powers with different bases, 5) zero exponents, and 6) negative exponents. It concludes by explaining how to simplify powers and exponential expressions by applying these laws and definitions of exponents.
Exponents are commonly used to describe very large or small values, such as the memory of computers measured in gigabytes, the strength of earthquakes on a logarithmic scale, distances between astronomical bodies measured in hundreds of thousands of kilometers, and the rapid growth of bacteria populations in the hundreds of thousands.

The issue with what Kanye said is that it is clear
that he thinks that the type of music that he
likes, and that he and his friends are involved in
are the only ones who should be winning Grammy’s.
And back to Kyle’s original point, his “friend”
Beyonce’s career is now taking a hit due to his
disrespectful actions. Yes, people can have their
opinions. But maybe do your research before you
start insulting other artists on television. I’m
sure Kanye knew nothing about Beck or his music be-

we need to stop being so oppressive to the black
community because they have been put down for so
long, and everything good they every do is never
credited to them. A black artists success shouldn’t
amount to how many white people like them or how
many white fans they have. and no, you can’t be
‘racist to white people’ because white people
havent faced the same amount of systematic and in-
stutionalized racism like any other race in north
america has. And Jimbo Hawdon yes, it is racist
to make fun of a black persons name, to say “who
names their child khan-yay anyway” is similar to
how slaves had to be stripped of their birth name
because it was ‘savage’ or in 21st century terms,
‘ghetto.’ sorry his name isnt John or Paul, and you
cant take him seriously.
lastly, IF the grammys was truly not a racist or
sexist thing, then beyonce should have won in fair-
ness to the amount of records she sold (as it was
last year), not because of politics, which it
clearly is.

(side note: can dilla play jazz piano? nope! his

art professionally. He’s an amazing artist and can
bump out an accurate sketch in less than 10 min-

takes me 10 times to do the same thing he can do.
If I have a better idea/perspective/concept does it
matter that I can’t “draw” the way he does? Nope,
the only thing that matters is whether you feel the
work I’ve created. Who’s the better artist? Him,
who has studied and knows WAY more about art than

So let’s just pause this racism bit for a min-

valuable than making music with a traditional in-

orchestrators/arrangers (count basie) and songwrit-

does - he/she creates music. Creating music with-
out a computer involved in any part of your process

like saying - if you can hand write a book you’re
better than the people who used a word processor.
No reason for that. Use the tools that make life

Like I said, anybody can turn on the computer, flick
a few switches and knobs, play around the keyboard
a little, and boom, you got a sick beat to rap
over. All that requires is a half decent ear and
general perception of music, but it does not re-

can pick that up, but not everybody is capable of
picking up an instrument and orchestrating some-
thing beautiful with it; thats a gift. Manipulat-

I didnt say rapping required no talent, but I think
rap is more associated more with poetry or spoken
word, presented in an eloquent form that seems to
have ‘flow’. But in my opinion, it doesnt have very
much to do with music itself; its more a simple
form of entertainment. I see rap as a skill/abili-
ty/talent, whatever you may call it, in itself, but
I dont like associating it with music. Obviously,
mainstream music does merge rap into the category
of music, which makes the whole institution of it
subjective, so thats why we have conflicting per-

point im trying to make is that, in terms of MUSIC
in its raw form, theres a difference between pick-

What’s wrong with accessibility? Let’s apply this
concept to education. Shouldn’t everyone have the
right to be educated? Shouldn’t everyone be able
to make music? This implication that certain types
of musicianship are “better” than others is a huge
pet peeve of mine. You’re arguing that one form of
art is better than another. Who says an instrumen-
talist’s idea of art is better than a person who
doesn’t play an instrument? Hip hop evolved to use
drum machines and samplers in novel ways in part
because the people making music couldn’t afford to
hire a band and didn’t have enough privilege to
spend time learning an instrument. If that’s not
“punk”, I don’t know what is. And ah crap, I got
