FSC is a specialist contractor of construction & maintenance projects within
hygiene-dependent industries including food production & pharmaceuticals. We
are based in Grimsby, North-East Lincolnshire, and operate across the UK and

6. GROUNDWORKS &
FOUNDATIONS
FSC implement a thorough groundworks and foundation installation service and delivered in
three stages.
SITE INVESTIGATION
Before construction works begin, FSC conducts full site investigations. Often a legal
requirement, this helps identify potential problems which may impact a completed project.
Soil conditions and contamination with chemicals are also checked. These determine what
kind of foundations are needed to keep the structure stable and avoid slippage or
subsidence in future years.
SITE CLEARANCE
Site clearance comes next, which involves removing the topsoil, levelling the ground where
necessary and the construction of any retaining walls needed to create level platforms for
the development and prevent the soil from slipping or collapsing, as well as erosion.
GROUNDWORKS & FOUNDATIONS
Finally, our groundworks team can move onto the design and construction of the
substructure, which includes excavations and foundations. This again might involve the
construction of retaining walls. Our team of experienced groundworkers will then construct
foundations to carry the weight of the structure.

7. STEELWORK
ERECTION
