400 languages worldwide ; ALL REGIONS – ‘Empire’ is another big influence.
European languages include all major Western and Eastern languages and around 40 minority languages (such as Frisian)
Non scientific visualisation of my quick and dirty research on budgets. If Dutch is 100%, German and Russian 4 x Dutch ; French 1.2 x ; Polish same ; Baltic 10% of Dutch ; Spanish 1.5 x ; Italian 30% Dutch. Portuguese 50% that of Dutch ; Frisian, Flemish and Afrikaans 5 % (?) of Dutch.
‘Dutch’ acquisitions about 500 titles per year, with two exceptions of 1000 in 2011 and 2017. Over last 10 years a growth of 4,500 titles. Not sure about the rate of acquisitions in 19th C – requires further research.

Preparing this paper raised loads of questions :
What is the proportion of material selected versus output?
How to keep informed of most important publications?
Where are the big gaps?
Who uses the collections and why?
