The opening scene of Friday the 13th establishes a dark night sky and pans across a lake to a point-of-view shot of an unknown villain entering a camp house. Two camp workers are shown singing happily to indicate a budding romance. They are later revealed to be the victims as the camera switches back to the villain's point of view. As the female is stabbed, the camera zooms in on her face showing her fear and horror through a close-up shot. Slow motion is used to prolong the viewer's viewing of her murder. Sound is used to contrast between safety at the brightly lit camp house and danger in the dark outside, building tension through diegetic singing and non-diegetic music and sounds as the
