2. EXPOSITION
No one believed Phaeton when he
said that his father is the God of the
Sun. Thus, he travelled all the way to
Helios palace to find out if he is truly
his Father.
Inciting Incident
It turns out that Helios was his
Father and to prove that, he sworn
to the river Styx and on the other
hand, Phaeton could asks and get
anything he wanted.
Phaeton wanted to ride his
Father’s chariot however, Helios
refused and warned him to the
danger that might happen
considering he is a mortal and
no mortal could ride his chariot
even the ruler of the Gods.
However, Phaeton didn’t
listened to his Father’s warning.
Climax
For a few ecstatic moment, Phaeton felt himself as the
Lord of the Sky but suddenly there was a change. He
couldn’t control the Horses. They soared up to the very top
of the sky and then, plunging headlong down, they set the
world on fire. The highest mountains were the first to
burn, Ida and Helicon, where the Muses dwell, Parnassus,
and heaven-piercing Olympus. All things everywhere were ablaze. In the chariot
Phaethon, hardly keeping his place and all he ever
wanted was to stop the torment and terror. Mother
Earth, too, could bear no more. She uttered a great
cry which reached up to the gods.
Resolution
To save the planet, Zeus seized his thunderbolt.
It shattered the chariot, and made the
maddened horses rush down into the sea along
with Phaeton who fell from the mysterious river
Eridanus.
Denouement
Phaeton died and the Heliades, the
daughters of Helios, the Sun, came to his
grave to mourn for him and through their
unrelenting grief they were transformed into
poplar-trees.
