A presentation given at Choose your own journey, theMLA/DLA 2012 Joint Library Conference on Wednesday, May 09, 2012. Co-presentation by William TB Fee and Mary Spila. Presented with Beacher Wiggins, the Director for Acquisitions and Bibliographic Access at the Library of Congress.
A refresher on FRBR (Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records) theory, its implementation in VTLS Virtua, and RDA (Resource Description and Access), the cataloging code set to be implemented in early 2013.
This document provides an overview and summary of Resource Description and Access (RDA), the new cataloging standard that replaces AACR2. It outlines some key differences between RDA and AACR2 in terms of structure, terminology, categorization of resources, and level of description. It also summarizes the RDA testing timeline and partners involved in testing RDA records. The document directs readers to additional resources on RDA.

The document summarizes the State Library of Pennsylvania's TableTop ScribeStation Program. It provides details on how local libraries and historical societies can apply to borrow the TableTop ScribeStation, a portable digitization scanner, to scan materials of significance. It outlines the requirements for participants, including making scanned materials publicly accessible online and taking responsibility for transportation. It also describes what is needed to set up and use the scanner and includes photos of the device and materials included.
The document provides an overview of the Pennsylvania Digital Collections Project (PDCP) and its efforts to aggregate metadata from cultural heritage institutions across Pennsylvania for inclusion in the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). It discusses the importance of high quality metadata and outlines the PDCP's recommended metadata fields and guidelines. The presentation was given to institutions to help prepare their digital collections metadata for inclusion through the PDCP as the DPLA service hub for Pennsylvania.
