CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
Financial Analyst Ontario Public Services, Ministry of Education, Controllership Office Jan. 2015 – Apr. 2015
• Enhanced reliability of monthly accural journals by monitoring monthly account payable and account receivable journals
with attention to details following a well-developed process to ensure the journals are accurate and complete. Touch base
with the person prepared the journals for any anomalies and give correction recommendation if possible.
• Reduced the turnaround by at least 4 days (at least 50% efficiency boost) and increase the accuracy for the Year-End
consolidation by designing a macro which automates a huge part of the processes through MS Excel. Communicated with
the senior financial analysts for any unsure points and report the results to my senior manager.
• Updated and maintained financial reports extracted from the organization’s financial management system in a daily basis.
Reconciled the data among different report to ensure the result is error-free.
• Significantly reduce the turnaround time for gathering salary information from funded sectors by upgrading the current
Sector Salary Disclosure template through MS Excel macro. Upgrades include: (1)automatically capitalize font when
necessary, (2) auto fill some of the areas in the excel worksheet when the certain criteria is met, (3) warn users when they
are violating the rules and add comments automatically base on the type of violation, (4) take off the warns and comments
when the cell value no longer violates the rules.
• Filed historical documents – for 2 ministries – which hadn’t been organized for years into a nice and organized way.
Grouped and labeled documents based on content and created catalogs which help the team members to locate the file they
are looking for easily.
• Extracted and then analyzed financial data base on the project purpose. For Example, use credit card holder’s center ID to
identify the branch and division for that individual, use Business Unit ID to identify the purpose of payments, and etc.
• Helped to prepare the year-end director package such as travel expense report, which is revealed in the Public Disclosure
Report, and division variance analysis. Reviewed and identified those employees who spent on travel more than the line of
$10,000 for the past fiscal year; sent confirmation email to those employees and report their names in the Public Disclosure
Report after confirmed. As for the Variance analysis, reviewed and identified the accounts which significantly different
from budget.
• Ensured the branch forums go smoothly by properly set up the meeting room such as (1) set-up the projector and phone
meeting before the meeting start and (2) updated the contact list in Outlook based on the attendance sheet after each forum.
2. MARTIN (KAIYI) HE PAGE 2

• Reduced the turnaround for daily journal reconciliation by 2 hours through creating a macro in MS Excel.
• Enhanced the accuracy of reported commission by monitoring the commission data extracted from the database in a
monthly basis. Created a macro and reduced the process turnaround by 2 days. If significant error occurred, contacted the
individual who made the mistake.
• Completed analytical requests and reported to the requestors by utilizing different analytical skills and software (such as
Excel and Caseware IDEA) functions. Examples include, used Pivot table to summarize improper commission and used
Vlookup to find out which individual in which office made the mistake.
• Exported data from PDF file into MS Excel for analysis purpose by utilizing Caseware IDEA. Filtered the exported data
and joint different data sheets into one master file base on the link between those data sheets.
