Q.1* THE ONE WHERE THEY CAN’T SCORE
The French National Team won it’s second world cup recently having defeated
Croatia 4-2 in the finals. The tournament was a notorious one for their striker,
Olivier Giroud as he failed to score any goals throughout the tournament although
he was lauded for his efforts in other parts of the game. Goal-shy Giroud was said
to be channelling the spirit of '98 and X who also failed to score at the ‘98 World
Cup for France despite being their front man. If you were to say the name of X to
most people outside France, it wouldn't bring much reverence.
Identify X.
Q.2 THE FAKE TAXI (DRIVERS) [1 + 1]
Four senior West Bromwich Albion players were involved in an incident during a mid-winter
training trip to Spain, with manager Alan Pardew admitting that they have let down the club as
they continue to battle against relegation from the Premier League.
X, Y, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill issued a statement on Friday apologising after reports
emerged that the four players were interviewed by the Spanish police for allegedly stealing a taxi
after a night out in Barcelona. According to reports in Spain, the cab was driven through a
McDonald’s drive-thru before being abandoned outside the five-star hotel the players were staying
in.
Identify X and Y where X joined West Brom from Everton and Y was linked with moves to
Arsenal and Manchester City before being relegated with West Brom.
Q.3 *
When he was 13, he accidentally amputated his right forearm while using an electric
saw, which gave origin to his nickname, El manco (meaning "the one-armed", or
"the maimed"). X began his career in 1923/24 with Nacional and was the first player
to score in a World Cup game for Uruguay. At Nacional he won three Uruguayan
Championships (1924, 1933, 1934), before retiring in 1936. X's goal in the World
Cup Final helped Uruguay win the first FIFA World Cup in 1930.[5] He also scored the
first ever goal at Estadio Centenario, against Peru, in that tournament.

Q. 4
If you thought Neymar started it all think again. X renowned for his vision and
wonderful left foot, tarnished his name with a shocking dive during the 2006 world
cup clash with Turkey. Hakan Unsal of Turkey struck the ball against X’s shins, only
for the magician to fall to the ground, clutching his face in pure agony.
Unfortunately for Turkey, Hakan Unsal was sent off and Brazil went on to win the
tie. With 130 goals for Barcelona X is the club’s ninth highest goalscorer.

Q.5
• Cameroon's FIFA World Cup campaign in 1990 is one of the most glorious chapters in
the history of not only just this sport. Before Cameroon's first World Cup game
against Argentina, there were issues within the team. It was a 37-year-old man,
written off by experts, who was included into the team at the last-minute that turned
Cameroon's fortunes. X who was not going to play 90-minutes of football in any of
the matches was about to make a melody for the world to hum and dance on it. X's
dance was a hope to future champions like Samuel Eto'o, Didier Drogba, Mohamed
Salah, Riyadh Mahrez, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang, George Weah, Yaya Toure and
others that they can rock the world with their talents.

Q. 7 * CAUGHT IN HOT WATER
• In 2008, Brazillian World Cup winning footballer X found himself in hot water over
a scandal involving prostitutes. While recovering in his homeland after surgery,
the then AC Milan player was caught up in a sex scandal with three prostitutes.
• After booking into a motel with them, X said he discovered the hookers were
actually men. X alleged theft and extortion of $30,000 while one of the prostitutes
counter-claimed that X threatened him and used drugs, which the player denied.
A police chief said: X said he just wanted to amuse himself, that’s not a crime.

Q.8
• Teams are being very cautious at the World Cup this year to make sure they don't
accidently put themselves in a position where they could end up allowing a very
easy goal to their opponents. After big goals, such as the Cristiano Ronaldo free
kick that leveled Portugal with Spain at 3-3 or the Harry Kane header that lifted
England over Tunisia, teams have been good to break into celebrations that
involve the whole squad, except for one player. In the cases of both Portugal and
England, one player–Jose Fonte for Portugal, Kieran Trippier for England–made
sure to stay on the pitch.
• This was because of one particular law of Fifa’s laws of the game. Explain.
Q.9
• On 25th of September 2011, Jone Samuelson of Norway scored a goal from 58.13

THEIR OPPONENTS COULD HAVE RESTARTED THE
GAME OTHERWISE
According to FIFA's Laws of the Game, all of the players except the one taking the
kickoff must be in their own half of the field of play. If interpreted that players off
the playing field entirely are not subjected to the same regulations as those on it,
then the opposing team could theoretically kick off and resume play during a full-
team celebration, while the goalkeeper stands alone against 10 men. The
opposition could also restart as soon as the scoring team all goes back to its side of
the field, even in celebration, as long as it has the referee's signal.

Q. 1
It all starts off with a counter attack when Y passed the ball forward to X, who slips it to Z on the
left wing near the half-line. As Z picks up the ball, X charges forward to the 18-yard box, calling for
the ball with his arms raised. With a defender behind X, X has to check his run and with his back to
the defender, he receives the ball on the edge of the box. X flicks the ball around the defender with
his left foot, imparting a little check-spin. Then X swivels, darts around the defender from the other
side and meets the ball again. The goalkeeper rushes forward but before he can do anything, the
ball is slotted in the bottom right corner.
Voted as one of the best goals scored in the Premier League, and the goal of the season during
that Premier League season, X hails as a club legend immortalized outside their stadium with a
statue of his own.
Idenitfy X
Q. 2
• The opposition try to work their way up the field but the ball is misplaced near the
centre circle. As the ball is picked up by X, the player notices an opposition player
attempting a tackle. With a deft touch, X glides past the opposition player with the
ball. Right at the half-way line, X notices the goalkeeper off the line and without a
second thought, X takes a glorious right-footed shot which soars across the pitch.
Much to the goalkeeper’s dismay, the ball goes above the keeper and with a shy
bounce, nestles into the goal.
• X wheels away to a celebration, for that goal is X’s hattrick goal in the span of the
match’s first 16 minutes, Identify X.
Q. 3
• Right at the halfway line, X skips past two players and darts forward with the ball. With an
opposition player in front, X plays a one-two with Y and receives the ball back right at the edge
of the 18-yard box. With a defender rushing to tackle, X notices the keeper off the line. In a split
second, X chips the ball. The defender slides and the keeper jumps; anything to prevent the ball
flying into the top corner. But all is in vain as X perfectly chips the ball into the top corner.
• There are not many iconic goals which are actually known for their iconic celebrations. But X’s
celebration was truly iconic. No erratic running around, no acrobatics, no ‘dabbing’. X just stood
his ground, letting the world admire the true greatness of the player himself.
• Identify X.
Q. 4
• If you think Sadio Mane’s hattrick in under three minutes was exceptional, think again.
In a normal league game against Y, X’s team was trailing at half-time. X was
substituted in and a few minutes later, X equalised with a poke from the six-yard.
Within minutes, X helped his team take the lead by scoring a banger from outside the
18-yard box into the bottom left corner. As for the third goal, X hit the post, hit the
rebound at the keeper, and again the resulting rebound was placed into the goal
smoothly past the rushing defenders. As if a hattrick was not enough, X went on to
score a emphatic volley into the roof from close range. To top it off, X scored an
acrobatic goal from the edge of the 18-yard box. Scoring 5 goals in a span of Z
minutes, X broke four existing world records. I

Shkaplerov playing goalie and trying out some kicks with an official 2018 FIFA
World Cup ball. Both of them donned a "Russia 2018" T-shirt for the occasion,
pulled off a variety of acrobatic flips, kicks and spins — moves that would make
real World Cup players a tad bit jealous.
• What was so special about the video of them playing football?

The tournament was a notorious one for their striker, Olivier Giroud as he failed to score any goals throughout the tournament although he was lauded for his efforts in other parts of the game. Goal-shy Giroud was said to be channelling the spirit of '98 and X who also failed to score at the ‘98 World Cup for France despite being their front man. If you were to say the name of X to most people outside France, it wouldn't bring much reverence. Identify X.
  • 5. Q.2 THE FAKE TAXI (DRIVERS) [1 + 1] Four senior West Bromwich Albion players were involved in an incident during a mid-winter training trip to Spain, with manager Alan Pardew admitting that they have let down the club as they continue to battle against relegation from the Premier League. X, Y, Jake Livermore and Boaz Myhill issued a statement on Friday apologising after reports emerged that the four players were interviewed by the Spanish police for allegedly stealing a taxi after a night out in Barcelona. According to reports in Spain, the cab was driven through a McDonald’s drive-thru before being abandoned outside the five-star hotel the players were staying in. Identify X and Y where X joined West Brom from Everton and Y was linked with moves to Arsenal and Manchester City before being relegated with West Brom.

X began his career in 1923/24 with Nacional and was the first player to score in a World Cup game for Uruguay. • 8. Q.5 • Cameroon's FIFA World Cup campaign in 1990 is one of the most glorious chapters in the history of not only just this sport. Before Cameroon's first World Cup game against Argentina, there were issues within the team. It was a 37-year-old man, written off by experts, who was included into the team at the last-minute that turned Cameroon's fortunes. X who was not going to play 90-minutes of football in any of the matches was about to make a melody for the world to hum and dance on it. Identify X.

  • 10. Q. 7 * CAUGHT IN HOT WATER • In 2008, Brazillian World Cup winning footballer X found himself in hot water over a scandal involving prostitutes. While recovering in his homeland after surgery, the then AC Milan player was caught up in a sex scandal with three prostitutes. • After booking into a motel with them, X said he discovered the hookers were actually men. X alleged theft and extortion of $30,000 while one of the prostitutes counter-claimed that X threatened him and used drugs, which the player denied. A police chief said: X said he just wanted to amuse himself, that’s not a crime. Identify X
  • 11. Q.8 • Teams are being very cautious at the World Cup this year to make sure they don't accidently put themselves in a position where they could end up allowing a very easy goal to their opponents. After big goals, such as the Cristiano Ronaldo free kick that leveled Portugal with Spain at 3-3 or the Harry Kane header that lifted England over Tunisia, teams have been good to break into celebrations that involve the whole squad, except for one player. In the cases of both Portugal and England, one player–Jose Fonte for Portugal, Kieran Trippier for England–made sure to stay on the pitch. • This was because of one particular law of Fifa’s laws of the game. Explain.
  • 12. Q.9 • On 25th of September 2011, Jone Samuelson of Norway scored a goal from 58.13 metres for ODD Grenland vs Tromso Idrettslag. This led to Samuelson earning a unique world record to his name which stands to this day. • What was this world record?
  • 13. Q.10* The BBC started its television service in 1936, although it was nearly a year before the very first televised match of football was screened – a specially-arranged friendly match between X and X’s Reserves on 16 September 1937. Identify X.

Most of his vast professional career, which had spanned 25 years, was associated with Sao Paulo FC, with whom he won 20 major titles, including three Brazilian Leagues and two Libertadores Cup. Identify X
  • 15. Q. 12 • Otherwise known as the 'V' pullback, the X Pullback is a move you see in almost every soccer game. It's one of the most fundamental moves in soccer and can be used in nearly every situation. The creator of the move, X, can be regarded as one of the best footballers of all time. Scoring 746 times throughout his 754 professional game career, X is regarded as one of Real Madrid’s best players ever. • Identify X
  • 16. Q.13 • “As I turned my head I saw Pele. He’d made ground fast and such was the athleticism of the man he’d already launched himself into the air. Sidestepping on my toes, I covered the ground to my right and was only two or three paces off the centre of goal when Pele met that ball with the meat of his head. The moment the ball left his head I heard Pele shout `Golo!’. I suddenly found myself at a 40 degree angle with my right hand stretching out toward the post, my eyes trained on the quickly descending ball. It left the turf and headed towards my right-hand corner, but I managed to make contact with the finger of my gloved right hand.” • What is being described here?
  • 17. Q.14 • LaMia Flight 2933 was a charter flight of an Avro RJ85, operated by LaMia, that on 28 November 2016 crashed near Medellín, Colombia, killing 71 of the 77 people on board. • The tragedy was a brutal one for the footballing world for a particular reason. Explain.

  • 19. Q.16 * [ 1 + 1 ] • Like Fla-Flu in Rio, the origins of the great Sao Paulo rivalry are rooted in X being formed by defecting former members of Y. The two clubs share excellent records – one Libertadores each, eight Brazilain championships for X to Y’s five. Most of the flashpoints now take place away from the stadium and over the past 10 years they have become more frequent, with one supporter shot dead in the build-up to the derby in 2012, rioting, fights and even players being assaulted when spotted out in the city centre. Identify X and Y
  • 20. Q. 17 • Manchester City → Newcastle United → Queens Park Rangers → Marseille (Loan) → Burnely → Rangers → Burnley • Identify this controversial former player who is now the manager of League One club, Fleetwood Town.
  • 22. Q.1* THE ONE WHERE THEY CAN’T SCORE The French National Team won it’s second world cup recently having defeated Croatia 4-2 in the finals. Explain.
  • 37. THEIR OPPONENTS COULD HAVE RESTARTED THE GAME OTHERWISE According to FIFA's Laws of the Game, all of the players except the one taking the kickoff must be in their own half of the field of play. If interpreted that players off the playing field entirely are not subjected to the same regulations as those on it, then the opposing team could theoretically kick off and resume play during a full- team celebration, while the goalkeeper stands alone against 10 men. The opposition could also restart as soon as the scoring team all goes back to its side of the field, even in celebration, as long as it has the referee's signal.

As Z picks up the ball, X charges forward to the 18-yard box, calling for the ball with his arms raised. With a defender behind X, X has to check his run and with his back to the defender, he receives the ball on the edge of the box. X flicks the ball around the defender with his left foot, imparting a little check-spin. Then X swivels, darts around the defender from the other side and meets the ball again. The goalkeeper rushes forward but before he can do anything, the ball is slotted in the bottom right corner. In a split second, X chips the ball. The defender slides and the keeper jumps; anything to prevent the ball flying into the top corner. But all is in vain as X perfectly chips the ball into the top corner. • There are not many iconic goals which are actually known for their iconic celebrations. But X’s celebration was truly iconic.
