Different Camera Modes
• Program (P)
– A step above auto. Camera controls aperture and
shutter speed
• Aperture Priority (Av or A mode)
– You control aperture. Camera controls shutter
speed
• Shutter Speed Priority (Tv or S mode)
– You control shutter speed. Camera controls
aperture.
• Manual (M)
– You control all of the settings.
Manual Settings To Know:
ISO
The image sensor’s sensitivity to light
Lots of light – low ISO number
The higher the ISO number, the grainier the picture will
be
Aperture
The opening in the lens which light travels through
Controlling the size of the opening controls the amount of
light used (think of pulling back curtains in the morning)
The smaller the number, the wider the opening
The lower the F number, the blurrier the background will
be
F 1.8 is blurrier than F 5.6
Shutter Speed
The amount of time the shutter uses to take a picture
Measured in seconds (1/125thof a second, 1 second)
Action shots – pouring on syrup, stirring a pot
Lighting – the longer the shutter stays open, the more
light is let in
