18. Computer technology has paved the way
for revolution in type setting, which led
the phototypesetting to move on to digital
technology.Withtheintroductionofelectronic
page design, the type setting responsibly was
shifted from the compositor to designer. The
multi master typefaces were introduced by
Adobe in 1991, which enabled the designer to
construct, change fonts, change weight, width,
opticalsize,strokeshapeandserifconfiguration.
Before printing the output onto paper, films or
printing plates, advanced personal computers
and softwares enabled the users to design the
entire page electronically and view them.Raygun magazine - It explored experimental magazine typography.
John Warnock(left) and Charles Geschke(right) founded Adobe in 1982.
Adobe World Headquarters - construsted in 1993.

Adobe Inc.’s Contribution
Grunge Typeface Family Digital Typesetting Techonology
Harriet Goren, a graphic
designer, developed the
Grunge Typeface. It was
popular in 90s. The type
design in that period was
different. The words were
splayed and chaotic. Letters
were blurred. It was the peak
period of Grunge typeface.
Idealssuchaskerning,leading,
and spacing were ignored.
Archaic principles such as
ascenders and descenders, the
consistency of x-heights and
baselines were not followed.
Letters were treated as art.
The font was first used, for the
cover design, of a magazine
called ‘ray gun’. People had never seen such
a font before and they liked it. It became
popular. Then, It was used in products,
such as ‘Alternative’ music CDs, video
games and zines, of wayward generation.
Graphic designers David Carson used
Grunge type for his bold and disorienting
designs. Gradually after year 2000, usage
of Grunge type started to decline due
to people preferring clean lettering and
uniform spacing as before Grunge era.
AdobeInc.isoneofthelargesttypedevelopers
intheindustry.Sinceitsinception,Adobewas
a pioneer and made a huge contribution to
the digital type world including developing
tools to create and manage digital content.
Adobe’s contribution was significant in
developing expertise in layout and design
of typefaces, which were admired for
precision,eleganceandmultilingualsupport.
Even though Adobe is recognized for its
software developments nowadays, it has
developed several typography products
from its incorporation. Post Script was
the Adobe’s first production, which was
followedbydigitalfonts.Anothersignificant
production of Adobe was “Adobe Type
Manager’ which enabled the users to view
the scaling of the type 1 fonts on the screen
before printing. Adobe accomplished its
digital font development by its own team of
developers, which included award winning
designers Richard Lipton, Jovica Veljovic
and Michael Harvey.

26. Logo is designed with Indonesian Borobudur temple in mind. The structure and Buddhist cosmology
behind the temple inspired to design the logo.
The Borobudur Temple Compounds is one of the greatest Buddhist monuments in the world, and was
built in the 8th and 9th centuries AD during the reign of the Syailendra Dynasty. The monument is
located in the Kedu Valley, in the southern part of Central Java, at the center of the island of Java,
Indonesia.

The main temple is a stupa built in three tiers around a hill which was a natural center: a pyramidal base
with five concentric square terraces, the trunk of a cone with three circular platforms and, at the top, a
monumental stupa. The walls and balustrades are decorated with fine low reliefs, covering a total
surface area of 2,520 m2. Around the circular platforms are 72 openwork stupas, each containing a
statue of the Buddha. (UNESCO, 2014).

31. ‘Visit Victoria’ is unified entity which manages the marketing
functions of tourism Victoria, Victorian State Government statutory
authority. It does not have a separate or independent brand,
Instead it incorporates state Victoria’s brand mark. Victorian state
government’s logo is more official. It is not suitable for promoting
Victoria to the locals and international tourists as a tourist
destination. Therefore I designed a logo to re-brand ‘Visit Victoria.’

32. The Winner
The ‘V’ shape or ‘tick’ shape
logo was chosen to represent
Victoria and invite tourists. It can
harmonize with Melbourne logo
which is the capital of Victoria
state. The ‘V’ also designed in a
way to resembles the limestone
stacks(The Twelve Apostles) off
the shore of the Port Campbell
National Park which is one of the
main attraction of Victoria.

Caviar Dreams
‘Built Titling’ typeface and ‘Caviar
Dreams’ typeface were chosen to
use for the logotype. ‘Built Titling’
is a handsome male typeface. It is
thin and condescend shape. It can
contrast with bold ‘V’ shape logo.
The ‘Caviar Dreams’ is a feminine
typeface. The letter ‘S’ is elegant and
attractive. Both these typefaces can
marry together to enhance the visit
Victoria logo.
