Introduction
In a speech she presented on TED Talk, Adichie (n.p) explained the dangers of only hearing one story about a person, a culture, a gender, a nation, a war and generally any phenomenon that possibly has more than one side to the story. Through her speech Adichie informed her audience just how powerful one story was in imprinting a perception in the mind of its audience that could both be upheld for an individual’s lifetime and transferred or passed down to the individuals generations. Her speech speaks of how culture has worked since time immemorial in defining gender roles, ethics and moral values and even more, cultural beliefs. Reflecting on the idea of gender stereotypes, I agree with Adichie (n.p) that one story can be destructive and its effects can be difficult but not impossible to undo.
Many would deny that not only do gender stereotypes exist in the twenty first century but that they continue to define what roles men and women should perform in the society. For instance, the article by the Singapore Management University (n.p) revealed that even in a post gender-stereotypical age, men continued to be preferred to hold the majority seats of leadership and boardroom positions as compared to women who continued to be preferred to follow instead of to lead. West (n.p) in a similar study disclosed that the reason why gender stereotypes continue to haunt the present day woman is because although society does not actively proclaim and pronounce the roles of men and women in society and at the workplace, individuals continue to carry what they learnt were each gender’s roles as children and embrace those gender roles.
For example, men in the past were considered to be bread winners, professionals and leaders. Women on the other hand were considered to be individuals who were required to spend more time at home and less time at work. Although these stereotypes sound outdated and forgotten, Mariani (202) explains how individuals continue to uphold and unconsciously live by the gender stereotypes among other stereotypes they learnt in their past as they grew up. Therefore, although more women are encouraged to take up more competitive and scientific courses at school, when it comes to hiring for the jobs, most organizations still consider that men are better for such positions and prefer to hire men instead of women despite the fact that all candidates may show equal qualification, possess similar skill sets and demonstrate equivalent experience levels.
Significance of the Study
For this report, the single story that that we focus on that has been passed on from generation to generation, more unconsciously than it has consciously, is that a woman’s place is first at home and then or not all in a boardroom or leadership position. I am not a born leader. I fall short to the take charge attitude of dominance. I do not have a dominating presence and I tend to shy away from being the center of attention. I would rather be someone's right hand man. I am the Robin to Batman or the Louis Lane to Superman. However, I strive on being a supportive follower that works hard, has a positive attitude, and is the support system for the leader. I have never sight out a leadership position, but I enjoy doing work that carries great importance and helps out the organization.
The readings this week and last week makes me think about the different aspects of my personality and some of the qualities that are considered leadership. According to our readings, "Leadership is realized in the process of influencing the activities of an organized group toward goal achievement" (Yukl, 2006, P.3). Even though a person is not in a direct leadership position or prefers to stay out of the lime light, they can still influence people by their attitudes, work ethic, and loyalty to the company. It does not take a person to be in a leadership position to show leadership qualities.
In conclusion, I am not a born leader, but I show certain qualities that reflect leadership. I would rather be someone's sidekick and help them guide and influence the organization to success. Dominance is not a strength of mine and because of that I find it hard to take charge and be the boss.

The Existence of Pink Think
Human beings by nature are influenced by many things. This is important because it gives people a certain identity. Likewise, women and young girls are also influenced by many factors. This forms the basis of “Pink Think,” an article which explores how the behavior of women is influenced by various factors in their surroundings. The phrase Pink Think means “a set of ideas and attitudes about what constitutes proper female behavior” (Peril 281). Pink Think still exists in today’s society. Pink Think exists in behavior because women assume a standard character to which they all aspire. Also, it exists in activities in order to promote the concept of femininity. Moreover, Pink Think exists in products because women consider it a form of fashion as well as in institutions, so they can appear attractive. The existence of all these factors shows that Pink Think still exists in today’s society.

Diverse leaders bring diverse voices to an organization. By having diverse leadership available and accessible to the diverse workforce, people for better represented and protected in the workplace. The lived experiences of women and minorities often push them to be more inclusive in their leadership styles because they know what it means to be received with bias and stereotypes. However, there are also costs to diverse leaders. They will often find themselves second-guessing their decisions, wondering if they will be taken seriously due to their own differences. There is also the feeling that evolves that a certain diversity is required for public image, and hiring takes place without thinking of who is actually best for the role from a career aspect, but instead from a diverse aspect. This happened to me when I worked under another female white CEO.
Long story short, the CEO felt only a gay male could lead in a certain role, no questions asked, barring any of the team from promotion. This was due to her being pressured by outside forces that already disagreed with her leading a gay organization, even though the doors of that organization would have 100% closed had she not saved it from disastrous prior leadership. Not to mention the fact that she had been an advocate and leader in the HIV world for over 20 years, saving countless lives. No one seemed to care, all they saw was her gender and orientation. Her life experience as a woman who was receiving prejudice from many in the community controlled her decisions, causing vital staff to quit because she basically told them because of their gender and orientation, they had no room for growth in the organization.
The pressures of life experiences can and will drive people to do things that may ultimately tear themselves down as leaders if they are not careful. We as leaders need to understand how to properly manage and respect our diverse workforces needs and recognize when we are allowing outside expectations and sexist/racist influences drive us to make decisions we regret later.
Is there a feminine advantage? Do women leaders have innate abilities to connect that give them an advantage in transformational and collaborative leadership styles?

with pain and regret, the listener knew better than to believe her.
Not so Meredith Small. A physical anthropologist whose main research has been on primate
mating behavior, Small joins a coterie of such writers as Robert Ardrey, Desmond Morris and
Lionel Tiger, who have sought to make evolutionary biology the foundation of studies of sexual
behavior.
In “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” Small argues that we’re genetically programmed to
experience sexual pleasure; hard-wired to search for young, attractive mates; driven to copulate

I am not a born leader. I fall short to the take charge attitude of dominance. I do not have a dominating presence and I tend to shy away from being the center of attention. I would rather be someone's right hand man. I am the Robin to Batman or the Louis Lane to Superman. However, I strive on being a supportive follower that works hard, has a positive attitude, and is the support system for the leader. I have never sight out a leadership position, but I enjoy doing work that carries great importance and helps out the organization.
The readings this week and last week makes me think about the different aspects of my personality and some of the qualities that are considered leadership. According to our readings, "Leadership is realized in the process of influencing the activities of an organized group toward goal achievement" (Yukl, 2006, P.3). Even though a person is not in a direct leadership position or prefers to stay out of the lime light, they can still influence people by their attitudes, work ethic, and loyalty to the company. It does not take a person to be in a leadership position to show leadership qualities.
In conclusion, I am not a born leader, but I show certain qualities that reflect leadership. I would rather be someone's sidekick and help them guide and influence the organization to success. Dominance is not a strength of mine and because of that I find it hard to take charge and be the boss.

Human beings by nature are influenced by many things. This is important because it gives people a certain identity. Likewise, women and young girls are also influenced by many factors. This forms the basis of “Pink Think,” an article which explores how the behavior of women is influenced by various factors in their surroundings. The phrase Pink Think means “a set of ideas and attitudes about what constitutes proper female behavior” (Peril 281). Pink Think still exists in today’s society. Pink Think exists in behavior because women assume a standard character to which they all aspire. Also, it exists in activities in order to promote the concept of femininity. Moreover, Pink Think exists in products because women consider it a form of fashion as well as in institutions, so they can appear attractive. This was due to her being pressured by outside forces that already disagreed with her leading a gay organization, even though the doors of that organization would have 100% closed had she not saved it from disastrous prior leadership. Not to mention the fact that she had been an advocate and leader in the HIV world for over 20 years, saving countless lives. No one seemed to care, all they saw was her gender and orientation. Her life experience as a woman who was receiving prejudice from many in the community controlled her decisions, causing vital staff to quit because she basically told them because of their gender and orientation, they had no room for growth in the organization.
The pressures of life experiences can and will drive people to do things that may ultimately tear themselves down as leaders if they are not careful. We as leaders need to understand how to properly manage and respect our diverse workforces needs and recognize when we are allowing outside expectations and sexist/racist influences drive us to make decisions we regret later.
Is there a feminine advantage? Do women leaders have innate abilities to connect that give them an advantage in transformational and collaborative leadership styles?
According to Chin & Trimble (2015), women tend to be more personable and caring. They are more invested in their staff, warm, and approachable. They are more participative, though there is the belief that this is what is required of them because if they are too assertive like their male counterparts they receive more resistance (Chin & Trimble, 2015). During ATR analysis, the sample is kept in contact with a crystal allowing total internal
reflection. An infrared ray arrives at the crystal where the material under study has been placed.
The internal reflection of the ray in the crystal gives rise to an evanescent wave which, at each
reflection, continues beyond the surface of the crystal and penetrates the sample over about 1 m.
The penetration depth depends on the wavelength, the angle of incidence of the beam on the
crystal, and the nature of the crystal.
Spectra are thus obtained (curves of absorbance vs. wavelength) that have absorption peaks
characteristic of the functions present at the membrane surface.
FTIR-ATR is a sensitive, nondestructive method that can be used qualitatively and
quantitatively. However, it requires prior drying of the membrane sample.
One of the applications of FTIR-ATR is the characterization of modified surfaces. In this case,
the spectra show bands characteristic of the basic membrane with, in most cases, bands
characteristic of the new functional groups related to the modification. FTIR-ATR also enables

The film industry specifically creates and markets films towards the female demographic. Many
of these

one
hundred years. Second, review the role women play on film by discussing the political and
cultural ideas
of representation. And the third review three films that embody the definition of “chick flick”
and discuss in relation
to the history of working women and theories of representation.
Based on my analysis, contemporary films aimed at women reflect the role of women in the
workplace. The films
reproduce current gender discourses but they also include elements of resistance. The films are
still steeped in the
dominant cinema and created through the lens of the male gaze but the characters can be
considered “unruly” and
their desire to develop a career outside of the home begins to resist the current gender discourse
that indicates
women are better suited to the private sphere of domestic life.The workforce has changed quite
dramatically
in the last 100 years. Let us take a brief look at the history of working women to better
understand where we have
come from inorder to discuss where we are going. During the past century most women in
Canada performed
unpaid work in the home including being primarily responsible for domestic and childrearing
duties. This work,
along with the associated gender discourse, reinforced the stereotype that women are more suited
for the private
realm of the home compared to the public world of men and paid labour. In the early 1900’s,
women began entering
the workforce but only if they were not married, had no children or were past the“marriageable
age”. It was even
commonplace for companies to fire women as soon as they were married. This can be referred to
as the
marriage wall. The maternal wall that women are up against now, that is the discrimination of
women based on their
reproductive status, was preceded by the marriage wall. She indicates that a gender difference
myth still
exists today claiming that “...only mothers have the special innate abilities needed to promote
3. children’s healthy
development. This gender difference myth, or current gender discourse, characterizes women as
caring,loving,
gentle and good which links them to domestic, caregiver and volunteer duties. These duties are
unpaid which begs
the question: Is expecting financial compensation for your contribution to society only a male
trait?
Although emotional labour has always been an expectation of women, for example in
childrearing, elder care,
volunteerism, job postings are now formalizing these expectations. For example, employers are
requesting:
communication/soft and interpersonal skills, people workers, team players, relationship builders,
and customer
service providers. Emotional labour is present in many industries; but in particular,clerical or
sales and service,
which explains why approximately one quarter of jobs held by men compared to over half of all
jobs held by women,
involve emotional labour.
The characteristics of a leader com through in our day to day interactions with those around us.
Leaders come in
all shapes, styles, and forms. If you stop to think about some of the leaders that have inspired you
or even some
that have infuriated you, the qualities of good leadership skills will become apparent. r
When we think about the characterstics of a leader . we often think of leaders that are dynamic,
which calls each
of us to act or to follow. We could take an example, such as Hitler. He did not have the values
that we should
follow, but had that inspiration that could ignite a country. If we also stop to think about the
leaders today in the
US, we do not get the same vision of a leader that has a dynamism that is hard to resist, but
rather a leader that
has that ‘good to great’ quality. Often times these leaders are more quiet and reserved,
embodying the vision
of good leadership skills and calling each of us to action in a subtle way that can often times
leave us asking why
we’re buying what they’re selling. The answer is a simple. The characteristics of a leader are not

that will be new to those that strive to master them, but will often times be the actions we all
know we should be
focused on, if we only had the time. Yes, developing good leadership skills take time, just like
perfecting an idea or
delivering on a project. Without an investment of time, very few people will have the skills to
become the great
leaders they envision. Let’s examine some if these traits in more depth. Don’t be surprised if
you don’t find the
complexity you were expecting as leadership is often promoted as that advanced skill few can
attain.
Although researchers have directed considerable debate towards the nature/nurture question,
certain
differences in biological sex are well defined and accepted as factual. How these differences
influence
perception,interaction,and ultimately leadership styles Is an interesting area of study and
somewhat more difficult to
define. A review of such differences serves as a starting point in the study of gender differences
in behavior and
leadership and why woman may offer unique strength essential to strength growth and operation
in an organization.
Leadership is one of the most studied aspects of group communication. Scholars in business,
communication,
psychology, and many other fields have written extensively about the qualities of leaders,
theories of leadership,
and how to build leadership skills. It’s important to point out that although a group may have
only one official leader,
other group members play important leadership roles. Making this distinction also helps us
differentiate between
leaders and leadership. The leader is a group role that is associated with a high-status position
and may be
formally or informally recognized by group members. Leadership is a complex of beliefs,
communication patterns,
and behaviors that influence the functioning of a group and move a group toward the completion
of its task. A
person in the role of leader may provide no or poor leadership. Likewise, a person who is not

“leader” in title can provide excellent leadership. In the remainder of this section, we will discuss
