Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

A Mission Trip in Everett
by Pastor Mike
My first mission trip happened when I was a youth in tenth
grade. I joined a team of about thirty youth and adults who
were going to renovate a parsonage, lead a children’s
Vacation Bible School, and encourage the followers of Jesus
living in a small Idaho town. My good friend, Shawn, and I
served on the electrical team and were nicknamed the
“Sparkies.” It was a defining and tiring event in my life -
with several shocking moments!
A few years ago my family took a mission trip with other
EFC families to Haiti. There was lots of exciting travel and
questionable roommates - very active rats. The twelve of us
served in the humid, Haitian heat as we led a Vacation Bible
School for children, provided dental care, and encouraged
the local believers. It was another defining event for me and
impactful for my whole family.
Now it is time to bring a defining mission experience to the
whole EFC family. The Community Pastors have been in
conversation for months about what is ahead. Rather than
traveling far away, we will be Jesus with skin here in Everett.
No long, tiring journey to get there; no “shocking”
moments; no rodent roommates; and no humid heat. But
even without all of that this will be a memorable event in the
life of our church family! The EFC Summer Mission Week is
something we ALL can participate in and when it is over we
will be around to assist those who need further
encouragement in their walk with Jesus. This is a local,
vacation-with-a-purpose, for all ages!
In less than two months we will have a team from Humble
Area First Baptist Church in Houston, Texas coming to
Everett. They are motivated by their desire to share the
good news of Jesus and serve the church of Jesus. We will
partner with them in this and be encouraged by our
brothers and sisters in Christ. Our biggest role is to be
present and my goal is that everyone at EFC will participate
in some way. So what are some ways we can be present?
Stop by the Family Tree and hand out invitations to the
kids’ club. Hand out invitations to families you know.
Drive or co-pilot the church van to pick children up for
the kids’ club.
Help children check in for the kids’ club.
Participate in the kids’ club - have your children attend.
Host folks in your home or just spend time with them.
Join us in walking through our community and praying.
Talk to the parents who attend the Friday night carnival.
Please plan to be part of this week. Things begin on
Sunday, July 26 through Friday, July 31.

Taco Tuesday: It
was another
special night
of preparing
dinner and
ser ving the
folks at the
Family Tree
Apartments.
You can see
some of our team members in the serving line -
John, Jono, Micah, Shaina, Dan and Andrea.
Our goal is to bless the folks in this community
and spend an evening sitting to hear their stories.
This is one of the ways we seek to train our
children to be Jesus with skin!
Ripley’s Transition: Our May 9th Family Gathering
began with a brief family meeting. Pastor Mike
sat with Steve and Janine Ripley as they shared
their upcoming transition. They are following
God’s prompting to join Paul and Amanda
Edwards in the start of Purpose Church in north
Everett. They are currently involved in a weekly
after school Bible club in north Everett and are
serving as part of the leadership launch team.
EFC has been blessed to have them as part of our
community for the past seven years. Janine has
served on the Management Team as the financial
secretary and the two have served as Community
Pastors for the past six years.
Community Group Weekend: We just finished our
monthly weekend meeting in homes. The goal of
Community Groups is to provide a place of
intentional discipleship around a meal. Over the
year we have been journeying through the Bible
with a family lesson. Our final Community Group
before summer will be Friday, June 19th.
New Faces at EFC: Pastor Spud and his wife, Julie,
have helped in leading worship in our Family
Gatherings this past month. We are exploring a
ministry partnership here at EFC. Pastor Spud
joined the Blizzard staff eight years ago while he
served at Harbor Light Church. Since then he and
Pastor Mike have become good friends and share
a common vision for living a Spirit-filled life,
serving those who without a church family, and
pastoring the church of Jesus. Please continue to
pray for God’s best and direction during the
summer months.
