This document presents information about flowers from five students. It discusses the reproductive and vegetative parts of flowers including the petal, stigma, style, ovary, ovule, peduncle, sepal, calyx, filament and anther. 2. Introduction
Each plant structure such as leaves, stems, roots,
flowers, fruits and seeds have their own specific
roles.
The flower is the reproductive part of the plants.
The parts of the flowers are divided into: 1.) Sexual
reproductive and 2.) vegetative part

5. Leaf-like structures at the base of
the flower.
They protect the flower before it
opens.

6. Petals
They are brightly coloured.
They surround and protect the
reproductive parts.
They attract insects which help them in
reproduction.

7. Stamen
Filament: long thin stalk
Filament supports the anther.
Anther: Sac like structure at the end of
stamen
It produces pollen.

8. Pistil
Ovary: The enlarged base
It contains ovules which produce eggs.
Style: Slender stalk of pistil.
Stigma: Sticky end of the pistil where
pollen lands.

9. Exceptions
Grass flowers: No sepals or petals
Maize plants: Flowers which contain
only male or female reproductive parts
on the same plant.
Osage Orange: Separate male and
female plants.

10. Pollination
It occurs before a flowering plant
reproduces.
Pollen from anther (male
structure) is transferred to
stigma (female structure).
