This document provides guidelines for preparing a home for new flooring installation. It outlines steps like emptying closets and removing furniture, disconnecting electronics, informing installers of wiring locations, arranging for door trimming if needed, allowing new molding to dry, understanding seam placements, being aware of natural material variations, ensuring access to gated areas, informing installers of existing floor removal or hazardous materials, having power available, and being present for measurement and installation. The goal is to have the home prepared, understand the process, and be fully satisfied with the completed work.

preparation helps the installation go smoothly and efficiently.preparation helps the installation go smoothly and efficiently.
Preparation: Before installation, empty any closets (at least 4’ up from the floor) receiving the new floor covering. Remove
all items from underneath beds, bed coverings, personal, and fragile items, or heavy furniture. Disconnect and remove elec-
tronic devices, i.e. home audio/video entertainment equipment, or any other appliances. Inform the measurer and installer of
all wires located under the carpet or along baseboards and door casings. Installers cannot run wiring under flooring, discon-
nect/reconnect gas, or water lines. (utilities company may have to remove or disconnect).
Furniture Moving: Ask associates for details about moving furniture ( $_____/Per Room). We do not move personal
items, fragile, or heavy furniture such as: clothing, antiques, piano’s, electronics, or appliances. NOTE:NOTE: Furniture moving may
not be available in all regions and must be specified at time of sale of install so that the installer can be prepared to provide this
service.
Doors: If you have purchased a thick carpet, with a thick pad, or if a new subfloor is placed on top of an existing subfloor, you
may need to arrange to have you doors trimmed to accommodate the new floor height/floor level. (Our installers do not shave
doors.)
Molding: Any new painted or stained trim such as, baseboard molding must be dry at least 24 hours before installation.
Seams: Seams are not completely invisible and will be less noticeable with certain types of carpet or patterned vinyl. Discuss
seam locations with your Home Depot sales associate or installs coordinator. If you choose to have fewer seams, this may
increase the amount of carpet or vinyl needed to complete your installation. Please ask your installs coordinator about seam
placement options and related costs.
Stone/Wood Variation: Natural products such as stone or wood have variations in color and grain. These variations can-
not be controlled, With some tile and stone, grout lines may be irregular due to the shape of the product. The color and grain
of wood will vary and is subject to expansion/contractions based on humidity or moisture present in the home. Gaps may
show between wood floor boards and will vary due to the nature of the product.
Secured Premises: Additional Charges may apply for Condominiums and gated communities ($______/Hard access
fee). Please check to ensure with your building management for parking accessibility and delivery times for your installation.
(elevator, service entrance, or front desk procedures, etc….)
Removal of Existing Floor covering: Additional charges may apply for take-up and removal of existing flooring before
installation ($______/Square Foot). NOTE:NOTE: If you have elected not to have the installers remove your existing flooring, you
must have this done before your new installation can occur.
Proper Power: Make sure that adequate power, light, water, ventilation, and heat or air conditioning will be available 24
hours before, and during the installation. (This can be a concern for new construction or unoccupied residence’s.)
Unforeseen Charges: Additional charges may apply to take-up and removal of water damaged, urine-soaked carpets, or
structurally damaged floors before installation. NOTE:NOTE: Asbestos floors are not always detected until time of install. If you are
aware of these conditions, please inform measurers and installers. Our installers do not remove asbestos floors.
(That service must be done by a certified/licensed professional)
Touch up: Expect minor touch up paint to be needed after installation. Normal installation methods will likely scuff existing
baseboards or walls. Our installers use extreme care to minimize this issue.
Clean-up: The installers will make a post-installation inspection with you to guarantee your complete satisfaction. After the
installation, they will clean up all materials. Surplus materials will be placed on your premises, where you request.
Adult Supervisor: An adult over 18 years of age with the authority to make decisions must be present at time of measure
and time of installation. This person should perform a walk through with our installers after completion of installation of new
floor.
Commitment: We sincerely appreciate your business and thank you for your purchases. This information sheet is to pre-
vent any surprises that cause unhappy customers. If for any reason you are not satisfied with your installation, please tell the
installer during the walk-through of the completed job. If there is something you notice after the installer leaves, please contact
our store as soon as you can so we can get the problem resolved for you. Our goal is your complete satisfaction.
