Flash copy is a point-in-time image copy that takes up only 20% of the space from the source and contains only metadata, not data. Flash copies are useful when environments have many hits since they require less space and time than full copies. A repository LUN stores the FlashCopy metadata and any copy-on-write data, with a default capacity of 20% of the base LUN.
