6. United Nations Global Compact
Cities Programme
A framework for translating the Global Compact Principles into day-
to-day urban governance and management.
The Global Compact Cities Programme (or Cities Programme) is
the urban component of the United Nations Global Compact; the
world's largest corporate responsibility initiative.
The United Nations Global Compact recognises that cities in
particular, have the potential to make enormous strides in creating sustainable societies -
where economic, ecological, political and cultural issues are integrated and advanced.
To that end, the Global Compact Cities Programme is dedicated to the promotion and
adoption of the Global Compact's Ten UN Principles by cities, and provides a framework for
translating the principles into day-to-day urban governance and management.
In the spirit of the United Nations Global Compact, the Cities Programme focuses on
collaboration between all levels of government, business and civil society
- to enhance sustainability, resilience, diversity and adaptation within cities and
in the face of complex urban challenges.
The Cities Programme supports a holistic approach to sustainability that considers, plans for
and measures impact across four social domains: the economic; ecological; political; and
cultural.
Administered by an International Secretariat based at the Global Cities Institute at RMIT
University in Melbourne, Australia, the Global Compact Cities Programme provides support,
guidance and recognition to participating cities.
The Cities Programme offers three levels of engagement: Signatory, Leader and Innovating.
Whilst all city and region participants are Global Compact signatories, the subsequent levels
recognise and foster sustainability leadership - city leaders implementing the Ten Principles
in the administration, planning and development of their city or region - in partnership with
leaders in other sectors.
All cities and regions may choose to engage at the Leader and Innovating levels in the same
period of becoming a Global Compact participant, or at a later date. The categories are
outlined in the following section.
7. 1. Signatory
In a letter to the UN Secretary-General from the highest level city leader, a Signatory City
commits to the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact, endeavours to enact and promote
those principles in city management, and encourages businesses in the city to join the UN Global
Compact. They also commit to Communicate on Engagement
2. Leading
Cities or regions that engage with the Cities Programme at the Leadership-level are drivers of
positive urban change. Such cities or regions generally have a dedicated sustainability plan or work
within the framework of a comprehensive urban plan that has a holistic approach. Their work extends
beyond the standard, administrative or service role of government. These cities or regions consider
the future directly, are conscious of their roles as civic leaders and facilitators, and are intent on
building resilient, sustainable and vibrant cities and regions.
Leading cities share their achievements and challenges with the broader Cities Programme
network. This can be done through contributing case studies or elements of their reports for
publication, participating in events hosted by the Cities Programme or partners, and engaging
academia with their work. Engagement at this level is generally without a fee, however cities can
choose to engage direct and extended support from the International Secretariat through financial
contribution to research costs
3. lnnovating
At the Innovation level, the highest level of engagement in the Cities Programme, a city or region
is recognized for addressing a complex or seemingly intractable issue or set of issues within the
city or region. This is done through a multi-year project. Whilst focused on a resolving a specific
issue or transforming a complex situation, these projects are holistic. All dimensions of that
community and region - the ecological, economic, political and cultural domains - have been
considered in the development of projects.
These projects have a transformative quality. They are managed cross-sectorally, engaging
government, business and civil society in the development and implementation of the project. The
project has clear monitoring and evaluation processes. At this level, dedicated support and
recognition is provided by the Cities Programme Secretariat. The project is documented; and
learning from this project is shared across the Cities Programme network and more broadly. A fee
is associated with this level of engagement. This fee can be used to provide research support
to the specific Innovating City project. Please Note: All cities and regions are signatories. All cities
can access Cities Programme's resources and tools. Cities can participate at the three levels
simultaneously.

Thanks Ambassador,
I am totally for this. Let me know the amount TLWT/ArtLifeLive would need to
contribute for the booth space and or Dome Exhibit Hall. Considering our recent
conversation regarding the guest coming to FPYF this Saturday we could exhibit our
response to urban food deserts as well. Plus The Angels Tekhen for FPYF can be
screened as well.
I will reach out to Ken, Rickey and Jackie about editing time/space with interns. We still
need to shoot Marcela and Wayne's ArtLifeLive interviews.
Giving Thanks Always,
Sir

Also save December 7th, we will go into the Living Alley and share ideas with the
community using virtual reality and innovative solutions.
Living Alleys with over 5000 plus alleys near abandoned lots in the City of Angeles, the
Living Alley is a new model to utilize alleys and convert them into spaces and
experiences that bring health, food, recreation, educational workshops, story-telling,
mural making, parks and others in the surrounding communities. The Living Alleys are
like a stage for multiple purposes where activities can come and go, based on the
community’s needs and demands. Living Alleys are repaved using sustainable materials
and colors, in addition to simple and high end design fencing materials and solar energy
lighting fixtures. Nearby abandoned sites support the activities and store the cargo
container with the furniture, technology devices, products, materials and educational
gadgets. The containers are retrofitted and designed with nature graphics wraps and 3d
printing trellises. The community will be able to go to our resource 3d model site and
choose multiple options from our library to modify it and customize it.
On December 1st we will welcome new members and FOCUS on the Living Alley
Project.

I know everybody at the table want, respect and know how important is to empower the
community and to also have all stakeholders have an ACTIVE voice and participation.
OUR
ECO, SMART and RESILIANT community engagement process:
1) Document and virtualize existing condition using a robust spatial data; built environment,
natural systems/solutions and economic forces
2) Present ideas, options, materials and case studies to the community through analog, web
based and virtualization
(just like we do with a regular client )
3) Community participates as informed doers in gamification and avatar ready virtual
environments
4) Participate in short and long workshops, program courses to design and build their
environments using virtual reality and digital fabrication
Your thoughts and advise are important.

We believe in education that serves our community by the community and the
ENCOUNTER is a living testimony of how this network exploded.
Due to logistics and efficiency we will only meet every other month. The focus of the
ENCOUNTER is now very clear. You are all our
Community Advisors that feed the LATTC architecture and environmtal design
program with design and mapping projects.
Here is a reminder of our mission:
ENCOUNTER is a new model that helps connect the classroom to the outside
world and the outside world to the classroom. We transform the built
environment through projects that are designed, built, maintained and
exhibited by local talent. We use simulation and virtualization to look at
complex ecosystems. We believe in healthy communities that thrive, sustain
resist.

NEW MEMBERS BY MARCH 3?
Marcela,
We have members on the Facebook ENCOUNTERS group that want to attend the
March 3 meeting via Google Hangout. Can you and/or Richard Nelson set it up asap so
they can be added?
Over a dozen say they have registered with encounterla.com but only a few are
included.
Can Elliot give us a count of how many are actually registered and populate the roster
accordingly?
I have access to photos for all and will be happy to forward them if a list is provided.
Please advise,
Andrew Williams Jr

Implementation Methodologies
For the first time ever, all members of the United Nations have launched a worldwide
campaign that leaves no one behind. But NONE of the goals can be achieved without
Peace on Earth.
Five Points Youth Foundation advocates “regenerative” solutions: processes that
restore, renew or revitalize their own sources of energy and materials, creating
sustainable systems that integrate the needs of society with the integrity of nature.
Whereas the highest aim of sustainable development is to satisfy fundamental human
needs today without compromising the possibility of future generations to satisfy theirs,
the end-goal of regenerative design is to redevelop systems with absolute effectiveness,
that allows for the co-evolution of the human species along with other thriving species.

Adhering to to the theme of Regenerative Economic Theory we are driving our
projects and capital campaign through Zero based budgeting (identification of a
task or tasks and then funding resources to complete the task independent of
current resourcing) within our own network, rather than source and spend
thousands of dollars on “anonymous” and “uncertain” crowdsourcing campaigns.
We are committed to making mission investments to further our philanthropic
goals. They include any type of investment that is intended and designed to
generate both a measurable social or environmental benefit and a financial return
We are assembling a multi-lingual international advisory board for the Five Points
Youth Foundation ngo campaign to support local global networks via the United

beginning with the September 21, 2015 (International Day of Peace) through the
end of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (December 31) 2015.
Arrangement for Capacity-building and Technology Transfer
We will promote the development and use of information and communications
technology infrastructure, as well as capacity-building, particularly in least
developed countries, landlocked developing countries and small island
developing States, including rapid universal and affordable access to the Internet.
We will promote access to technology and science for women, youth and
children. We will further facilitate accessible technology for persons with
disabilities.
